There is some confusion about whether or not we understand LLMs. The answer is yes and no, but mostly no. It's a complicated enough question that it seemed like it needed an article.

A coworker just gave a presentation about Doom/Doom II inside of the Doom engine (a modern version).

Definitely learned some things, such as finding out Sandy Petersen worked on the games!

(Sandy Petersen is a big name in the tabletop space, having worked on Call of Cthulhu and RuneQuest).

The noncommutative algebra of language.
Some words go together like jelly and peanut butter… wait, that sounds super weird.

A pair of words that is used in a fixed order in an idiomatic expression is called an ‘irreversible binomial.’

‘Peanut butter and jelly’ is an example of an irreversible binomial.

If you want a private community space for Blacksky in addition to the public feed, help us build it.

We’re looking for just 170 people to kick us $7 and we’ll launch. 🍽️
What do we think chat? Do I do a Blacksky soft-fork of the bsky app?
- Still use your bsky login but has Blacksky branding and support/feedback forms
- Blacksky Trending replaces Discover as the default feed
- @blacksky.app are the default moderators
- (eventually) private community-only posts/feed

Honestly, from my limited use of Copilot so far, this seems about right.
"When we examine reported time savings, developers using AI code assistants save an average of 2 hours per week, although there is considerable variation in this metric. The high end reaches 6+ hours per week [devs who have mastered advanced techniques]"

Either way, not 10x, 100x etc

1.2x at best

I should really get back to blogging, but, like a lot of people, I have no idea what would be useful to write (or how much to write). Anyone have any #softwareTesting topics they'd be interested in that I might be able to write about?

Note I've mostly been in the Desktop testing world for a while.

Today involves updating a test that has been technically broken for a long time...but the testing tool we use was silently letting a failure slip through. At least I know what I'm doing with my afternoon. 🙃
