you already know, you already know. pdx.
none of the people defending wilson seem to ever have an answer for "okay so we did shelter and sweeps, what next?" and that should be disqualifying as far as any obligation to take them seriously

Over the weekend, the Mayor started calling nonprofits warning them their funding would disappear if this passed. 🙃 Except… most of them don’t even get money from that sweeps budget.

Nice try though.

todd gets interviewed on the news constantly and the most notable thing about him is that he is just a huge dumbass who doesn't know anything and couldn't articulate a coherent thought if you walked him through it word by word
I don’t think people understand how organized pro-sweep turnout will be to wednesdays council meeting.

Register for item 8 ASAP. If you can’t make it, testify in writing:

Every single one needs to go. None of this “oh shoot he’s not up until 2030” shit, they’re all complicit in this. The only way to prove you’re not one of them is to overthrow Schumer as minority leader.
Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

this is like when oregon senate democrats would pretend to oppose something they actually supported because they knew betsy johnson would vote woth republicans to pass it and then would shrug and say "ah but we just didn't have the votes"

thorns going to the semifinal and I went and sat in a park and read a book and drank tea for an hour and all of those great feelings just immediately washed away by getting home and checking news and seeing that Congressional Democrats are even dumber than I, a cynic who hates them, thought possible

section 8 is like the last paperclip holding a back massive and arguably apocalyptic collapse in most cities in the US and the last year of garbage federal budgets and executive order shit is causing almost every housing authority i'm aware of to be in a state of financial collapse
I think we're genuinely flirting with a societal rupture and I'm not sure I want to experience that

Portland City Council will consider an amendment next week to redirect $4.3 million from the city program that sweeps homeless encampments. If passed, the budget adjustment will instead invest $2 million in rent and food assistance, and support for immigrants and refugees.

A similar, smaller scale thing just happened in the Josephine County (OR) GOP. A bunch of county leaders and precinct captains quit the GOP and formed a group called “United Conservatives.” The OR GOP currently has no official organization in the county.
WOAH. Texas GOP Executive Director Jen Hall and another top party official just resigned. In her letter to party Chair Abraham George, Hall said she "cannot in good conscience continue to work this way" but doesn't elaborate. Hall and George are both longtime Tim Dunn allies. This is...interesting.

Staff are picketing in front of City Hall, where their office is located.

It’s already made an impact. According to the Council President, enough councilors have refused to cross the picket line (including her) that today’s council meeting has been cancelled due to lack of quorum.

Today is an absolute rebuke of anti-transgender politics, and a real sign that the anti-trans panic is fading.

From VA Gov to Loudoun County to New Jersey to New York City and Pennsylvania, anti-trans Republicans are falling left and right.
Democrats are currently ahead in 63 (!!!) races in the Virginia House of Delegates.

If this holds, it would be one of the largest state legislature swings in the last 4 years.

Its an absolute bloodbath for anti-trans Republicans.

something I go back to is that in a lot of authoritarianism regimes, militarized violence is largely carried out by vigilante groups with the blessing of a government that is happy to let them do it because it means they don't have to pay for it or manage logistics
I think it is very clear that the Trump regime sees the right-wing influencers on the ground in Portland as an informal arm of their government www.theverge.com/policy/81340...
