Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

Investigative journalist Peter Bengtsen exposed forced labor and debt bondage in Taiwan’s bike industry. His reporting pushed major manufacturers to launch corrective programs, clear proof that independent journalism drives real, positive change.

In education, this gets dumped on the director of educational technology, who has things that they actually do need to do. If only we could afford superfluous VPs!
The way the banks did it was basically sort of proactive stonewalling, you appoint some VP of blockchain initiatives to constantly turn out studies about how the current tools aren’t helpful to your business but you’re definitely on top of things in case something good does turn up, which it won’t.

The American education system gets a pot of deserved flack, but it's so far ahead of much of the rest of the world when it comes to educating students with disabilities.

(The usual caveats about American education systems having a wide range apply, etc etc).
The education ministry revised the calculation method for Japan’s university entry rate, after it was learned that the initial rate didn’t reflect graduates from schools for those with disabilities.
Japan corrects inappropriate calculation of university entry rate
The revision comes after the initial entry rate had been calculated without reflecting the rate of graduates from schools for children with disabilities.

ICE detain father shopping on Christmas Eve—then steal his family's groceries.

Then 3 agents divvy up his paid for food—taking what they want for themselves.

"Can I just get the wife's number to call and let her know?" woman asks.

"No, guess he should've complied," agent says.

Bluesky is a wonderful scratch for that itch.
Has anyone read any good novels this year about middle-class people shuffling about and worrying about their feelings? It's my favourite genre and I feel like I've been neglecting it recently

can't get over the team behind the mcdonald's ad wanting credit for all the late nights and long hours they spent prompting for clips. you've somehow invented a form of ersatz creativity that recreates the suffering inherent to all creative work without any valuable output or intellectual growth
there’s just a certain type of person who would show up to your writer’s group wanting praise for presenting work but violently rejecting any form of constructive criticism that might improve it, and that right there is the target market for AI
