This thread is very poignant and worth every minute of the time you spend reading it.

I’ve been guilty of the vibes-based demand-making described here in the past and it can be a struggle for all us to acknowledge & understand other peoples’ perspectives. We could all stand to do that more often.
This is going to be very nuanced and very divisive. I hope you will do me the courtesy of reading the whole thing and digesting it before commenting.

Okay?

Good, here goes:

I think many people in our party misunderstand what a congressional leader is.

I would put money on the the White House/DHS/DOJ having had whether they could arrest @whstancil.bsky.social on the agenda of at least one meeting.
two sources with knowledge of the situation tell @zeteo.com some officials in Trump’s DOJ actually explored if certain instances of anti-ICE activists blowing whistles in Minnesota could be used as evidence in criminal prosecutions of those who “obstruct” operations... zeteo.com/p/don-lemon-...

Let’s test this little theory of yours that driving behind federal agents is a crime, that taking pictures of them is a crime, that I can’t tell my neighbors where they are. Let’s find out exactly how much of a leg you have to stand on. Fancy your odds? I don’t.

Because they constantly make arrest threats, and they haven't been able to successfully charge or hold anyone. You can either run in blind terror or you can realize it's a bluff and call it.
Why are you doing this? To get a court case? To show people it's ok? How they treat you might be better or worse than how they treat other people. Be careful. Doesn't help if you are detained for days.

Do you know how many times this administration has threatened me in the last 365 days? Do you know how many of those threats it has carried out? They are using FEAR AND INTIMIDATION to keep us in line, not actual legal force. We shouldn't fall for it.

it’s so bizarre that we have to fight alleged far leftists who think the government is playing by rules that you can protect yourself from by being careful

if that was true then we wouldn’t be in a crisis!

Again Will is a left wing civil rights lawyer whose worst sin is stubbornness and whose greatest virtue is also stubbornness. That he has been transformed into a demon in the minds of losers is evidence of how pathetically inadequate their vision of actual wickedness is.
the image of will stancil these people have built in their heads (grand wizard of the mega klan) is at odds with any time I've seen him post (dweeby, harmless)

the entire point of leftist arguments about the criminal justice system is that a big reason it’s unjust is that you can’t really conduct yourself in such a way as to make it impossible for prosecutors who want to give you trouble to do that

complying doesn’t actually protect you!
People keep saying "Getting arrested is bad, actually" and while I'd certainly prefer not to be, the administration's entire strategy is built around the idea that I will live in fear of it, and shape my behavior to avoid it, and cry in shame if I am. That is how THEY CONTROL YOU.

Trump is controlling EVERYONE with fear. Politicians, foreign nations, universities, industries. "What if he does something to me?"

Well, what if he does?! Is that the worst thing anyone has ever experienced? Time in jail? A court fight? You lose your job? Is that worth your god-given free will

Push through your fear and they don't control you any more! And many people are in places where they can't push their fear - they're old, frail, have children, have people depending on them. So those of use who have to less to be fearful of should push even harder to stand in front of them.

The last line is particularly telling. This is about nothing less than the enslavement of women and the “return” to a state of society where women are the property of their fathers or husbands, which we have only just barely managed to start moving away from.
The people who wrote this document are in charge of our government; working hard to make the horrendous policies outlined proudly in Project 2025 and other policy documents like this Saving American Family nonsense.

Dark days ahead, y’all.

Oh shit, we’ve been found out!
Yeah but what if the Melania movie was called Seven Samurai instead? And then when you went to see it they just showed you Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 masterpiece Seven Samurai? I bet you liberals would *love* it then. Typical.

my less cynical takeaway from this is, my dad always said he thought I was wasting my life studying gender theory and that it was all just made up stuff, and I feel like the full weight of the state and federal governments *banning my department* proves that's not the case
I have a certificate in women's and gender studies, along with my PhD, from Texas A&M. I honestly had thought they had already ended the WGS program. this just sucks and is a culmination of a long standing work of persecution against a vibrant liberal/leftist academic community
Really don't love that the phrase "gender ideology" has just seeped into so much normal reporting!

When you pay attention to the tons of research evidence showing that immigrants commit fewer crimes, you see that the problem isn't immigrants. The problem is the people blaming immigrants and spreading lies and stereotypes about them.

"Terrorism" refers to violence to achieve political ends. Research studies showing that immigrants commit fewer crimes means that ICE's actions are about Trump's racist politics, not law. That means ICE operates as a de facto racialized terrorist organization, not unlike the Gestapo.

Korematsu v. United States (1944) seems more pertinent than ever these days, when thinking about the state of our Supreme Court, and the injustices that its Justices are likely to rule on.

Whether or not a President can unilaterally rewrite the Constitution is on the SCOTUS docket in April.
Today, we honor the life and legacy of Fred Korematsu, a civil rights leader who fought against the wrongful removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII. 1/2
