i think the big middle event between george floyd protests and covid that accelerated this hard right turn in elite circles was tech employees using slack to stage walk-outs and force concessions from management. tech bosses got a first whiff of organized labor's power and started reading mein kampf
Only in America could a white man with a current net worth of $2 billion see himself as part of a victimized group. 🤦‍♂️

Every so often, it just comes back to me in full force. The political and economic order that allowed this man to come to power is obviously no longer tenable. The leaders who let it happen obviously have to be replaced. This is an epoch defining failure and we have to turn the page completely.

I find it fascinating that Britain acheived democracy in incremental steps over hundreds of years as each mad king made the people wrest a little power from him, and America, since its founding as a democracy has been slowly giving power back to individual rulers until they got a mad king
it’s always been obvious that laws don’t apply to the rich the same way they do to the poor but this is the kind of stuff that leads people to completely throw out the whole system

and a world where nobody believes in rule of law is not actually one these people want to live in

Stuff like this is perfect because it shows how utterly devoid of creativity genAI evangelists are.

Great you recreated a photo that already exists in a drawing style that only has currency because of who you're stealing it from giving the world something with absolutely no value or meaning.
OpenAI released a new version of their image generation technology, and people are using it to recreate memes in the style of Studio Ghibli.

The slop and misinformation on Facebook are features, not bugs. They want to turn brains to mush so people will spend more passive time in front of their screens generating ad impressions. They are actively trying to make our politics and culture worse to make money. That is the business model.
