My hot take on the male gaze is that it only feels gross and exploitative when it is coupled with a fundamental lack of respect, when it is driven by wanting to fuck women while not enjoying their company, when it is possessive instead of appreciative
The thing is like if we want to fight back against prudery and sex negativity we also have to stop referring to stuff as 'gooner art' and accept that nsfw shit that reads as 'for the male gaze' has as much a right to exist as your favourite yaoi

The officer Sandwich Guy is charged with assaulting testifies that he could feel the impact of the sandwich through his ballistic vest, and it “exploded all over my uniform.” He says he could “smell the onions and the mustard.”

Here to tell people who don't like books being marketing with lists of tropes to calm tf down
Ok, so we all hate tropes, is it?
I don't know why people are talking about this really. I don't even really know how much they are talking about it, but I've seen it float across my feed a few times over the last few days, and many…

Everyone younger than 45 has been a burned out, anxious wreck their entire adult lives, recession after recession, unpaid internships, underpaid jobs, rent out of control, political catastrophes, pandemics, genocides, can't afford therapy, just do self care, WHAT ARE WE DOING HERE
“At the same time, more than half of Gen Z members say they are struggling to make ends meet, yet a majority buy themselves a small treat, such as a pastry, coffee, or sweet, at least once a week. That can lead to overspending…”

Friction IS an essential ingredient for learning. Where we put the friction matters though. If students spend all their friction cognitive capacity dealing with buggy infrastructure and bureaucratic busywork, they eventually balk at the meaningful but seemingly more optional friction.
"Friction is an essential ingredient for learning!"

^So much this! Advocated for this forever as an educator (for kids & adults). I know there are studies that show friction w/ guidance does wonders

fwiw I think LLMs like other tech can improve learning but it has to be done well & thoughtfully

Writer's block, like all forms of procrastination, is about fear. Fear that when you look into your brain you'll find nothing there, fear that what you have to offer isn't interesting or funny or unique enough.
The solution to it is to learn how to manage that fear, how to trust your own brain.

SO much of the cultural and artistic nostalgia that society chases was just art made when people got paid to do it. Lavish movie posters made by human artists, video games made by people without sixteen different investment companies breathing down their neck, movies made by studios taking a chance.
