You have to look harder for LaFollette in Wisconsin than you used to but he is still there. People have their sides but there is still a strong element of "no son of a bitch owns me."
I think Musk played an outsize role in this. I heard phone bankers use phrases like "Elon Musk is trying to buy this election" and that had a real impact.
