Byōdō-in's ( 平等院) Hōō-dō (鳳凰堂 'Phoenix Hall') was completed in 1053. Once completely surrounded by Aji-ga-ike pond, the stretch of water helped protect the building from fires in 1336 and 1483 that completely destroyed the rest of the temple.

We report as different skies meet into one: somewhere to our right, and to our left alike, something different is happening. We have to choose where to look, which is a common motive of heartbreak we suffer from. Worst of all, there comes a time when we must look away entirely.

Half-forgotten for most of the year, Tenju-an (天授庵), like many of Nanzen-ji's small sub-temples, bursts into life during late autumn.

Autumn colours reflected in the pond at Tenju-an. Entering the gardens of Tenju-an. The path turns at right angles preventing the visitor from seeing anything but a glimpse of colour when they first step foot through the garden gate. Stretch of sand behind the main hall at Tenju-an, encircled by autumn colours. A small pine tree grows in the dry landscape garden at Tenju-an...in autumn red and orange leaves make the perfect backdrop.

A slender and somewhat tall mushroom grows out of dark damp soil. Its stipe and cap are the same golden yellow color. The stipe appears slightly transparent. The cap is circular, flared out, and a bit flat, but isn't very large. Reflections of light can be seen on the cap due to its viscous nature.

My photo shows a thin, rectangular, dark brown leaf of wood, which is broken in places. Across the surface are six lines of cursive Latin handwriting. The text is written in black ink which appears faded and faint. The Latin reads: nenụ ...[.]n. Brittoneṣ nimium multi ‣ equites gladis ‣ non ụtụṇtur equi- tes ‣ nec residunt Brittunculi ‣ ụt ‣ iaculos mittant Translated as: … the Britons are unprotected by armour (?). There are very many cavalry. The cavalry do not use swords nor do the wretched Britons mount in order to throw javelins. On display at the British Museum.

Buko-san, the energetic mascot of Yokoze (a town in Saitama Prefecture), is based on Mount Buko (a nearby mountain) and a taiko drum (the symbol of the local festival). He was born on April 5, 1304, at midnight.
A mascot whose head is a cubist green and blue mountain and whose body is a taiko drum is standing in front of a city hall and holding drumsticks.

Fairly wide trail in the forest. Left side is mountain, right side is valley. The trail is covered with fallen leaves. The foliage are still green but have yellow tinge.

Stunning 2,000 year-old #Roman purple glass bottle, probably used for perfume.

The museum image shows a rich purple Roman glass bottle. Free-blown with a spherical body, a flat base, and a narrow, slightly tapering cylindrical neck with flaring rim. 13.7 cm in height. The glass appears to have patchy accretions which have built up over time. The display lighting makes the centre of the bottle glow with a reddish light, as if it contains warm embers. Circa 1st century AD.

The employee at the cash register looks like they haven't slept in a couple days. They probably haven't. I hope they're okay. August: One medium mocha and a small hot cocoa with extra whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. Gustopher: WAIT! Panel 2 Gustopher has grown much more mature and sophisticated in this past year. He is becoming a man of fine taste and wishes for only the most sophisticated of drinks to sip on this cold autumn day. Gustopher: My tastes are maturing. I want my drink to reflect that. Panel 3 Gustopher slaps on his most adult and sophisticated looking face. He's prepared for this moment. He's ready. He's going to order his drink. Gustopher: I WANT- Panel 4 Gustopher: A hot cocoa with extra whipped cream and CHOCOLATE sprinkles. The employee has become distracted by their phone. WOW! There's a video of an absolutely very real bird flying off with an absolutely very real baby. This is clearly a video that was recorded by an actual living individual and not made by a computer. Why isn't someone doing something about all these birds flying off with babies? That's like the fiftieth video I've seen on the topic this week.
