For the fifty billionth time: I don't want society to shut down. I want you to mask at the fucking hospital, bus, airport, school, and grocery store, if you can.

If you cannot, I want everyone else to, to protect you.

Yep. We’re fools if we think the greatest radicalization machine ever rigged isn’t radicalizing people (men) beyond comprehension. Inflicting more damage in years than Rush and Fox did in decades.
I know that it’s a very Bluesky thing to assess the problems as being from overexposure to X, The Everything App, but I really do think a major driver of this is the young men that are most visible to Dem policy elites and podcasters are from there, or swim in those waters as well.

CW: Pet Death. June 2013 to Oct 2025, Miss Cookie Dough Ice Cream, Cookie for short. A mighty huntress who landed like she was twice her weight and yet was a petite seven pounds. She was a former feral who was endlessly spoiled as an indoor princess. It was cancer.

There is nothing under international law that prevents people attempting to break an illegal siege of an illegally-occupied territory by a country committing genocide.

It is the other way around.

These governments are breaking their own public commitments to stop a genocide.

And Poland could only lie here because

1- citizens in international waters are not in the places where travel is not advisable

2- if they’re in Palestinian waters - Poland recognises Gaza as part of Palestine - then Poland would have to support Israeli troops abducting citizens in another country
Poland’s foreign affairs minister had possibly the most cynical response: he said his office is working to return the Poles but also that his ministry publishes advisory on places where travel is not advisable and suggested a new law that burdens citizens with cost of rescue, should they disobey.
And the countries that pride themselves in being apparent democracies have abandoned their own citizens, including elected representatives, to the whims of a government currently committing an internationally-recognised genocide

The main breaker at my mom's house has decided to retire after 42 years of service. At least it's October and it's not nearly as hot as it was a month ago. Plus i saved the groceries in the fridge.

With The Possession of Alba Díaz's study of demonic hauntings and old mining families, Isabel Cañas once again proves she's leading the Gothic literary renaissance:

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

Fascists do not believe in free speech as a universal principle. Free speech is a tool they'll happily use, but they don't think everyone should have it. They don't believe in universal moral principles at all. Rights and privileges are for the in-group, obligations are for everyone else.
When you support Free Speech but only for your self what you're for is your own untrammeled power.

“Klein’s interest here isn’t honesty but flattery. It shows Klein isn’t writing about Kirk at all. He’s writing about himself and saying, ‘I’m doing politics the right way because I’m lauding someone who disagrees with me.’”
I told myself I wouldn't do a snap reaction to Ezra Klein's noxious editorial. I said, "If you're still mad about it on Monday, then you can write about it."

I'm still mad about it!

This is also just a straight up lie! Kirk did NOT support free speech or persuasion, his entire political project was based around using organized harassment and threats of violence against people who spoke in ways he disagreed with!
These people have smarted themselves into the dumbest fucking arguments.

Determining whether someone is "doing politics the right way" depends almost entirely on the content of their speech! If someone lies constantly and endorses authoritarians that's not practicing good politics.

This + increasingly, I think it's important to note who doesn't want these spaces (public schools, universities, parades, etc) to exist and who benefits from them feeling unsafe.
I think it's terrible that Gen Z and Gen Alpha continue to live in a world where K-12 and college campus shootings are a normal part of life and that's all they've ever known and I think we should arrange things so that any kind of school or university shooting is impossible
