I have seen them a lot around DC and they were all either standing, walking, getting coffee, or saying hello to kids. I’ve heard multiple stories of horrible shit done by ICE and nothing at all done by national guard.
I’m opposed to Trump deploying National Guard in the streets of DC. I think it’s a bad approach undertaken for dishonest ends. But my impression is that (unlike ICE) most if not all NG have behaved professionally and are not the ones to blame for a bad policy.

People keep posting about how “maybe Leavitt will learn a lesson now that it’s happening to her sister-in-law” and…you are missing a key point. The woman is Leavitt’s brother’s *ex* & Leavitt’s entire family - including her brother & his new wife - seem pretty eager to deport this woman.
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...

Bruna Ferreira, 33, was brought to the United States as a child in 1998. She is now in removal proceedings in Louisiana.

A councilmember who won his primary last year with 23.7% of the vote wants to delay implementing ranked choice voting. The at-large CM who won her last primary with 35.9% agrees that making her run for reelection next year under RCV would be a bad idea.
Felder continues to be critical of the election board's capacity to pull off ranked-choice voting in 2026.

"Before we roll out something of this magnitude I would think we need to do a needs assessment," he says to Evans. "You’ve been tasked with an arduous task. It’s unfair."

the DoD appears to be set to break ties with Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America). Scouting and the military have been partners for a century. Not the most disgraceful aspect of Hegseth's tenure, but I think it captures the essence of the rot tomlee.wtf/2025/11/25/s...

(5) When she's gone, the Clerk runs that office (the 14th district of Georgia, I think) until a successor is elected. So this reduces the number of members in the House and the number to make a quorum
(6) Also, IIRC, any discharge petitions she signs on stays valid even after she's gone.

For what it's worth:
(1) even if she has resigned, it hasn't taken effect yet.
(2) you can't resign by tweet. She has to turn in the letter. (I think)
(3) Are there take-backs? Maybe before it's received.
(4) She still retains a number of privileges, including floor privileges.

ok but “play the media better than Donald Trump” is not a reasonable standard to hold anyone to. I say this in complete earnest
The weird thing is with Donald Trump just said about Zohran Mandani is what every Democrat should’ve said about Zohran Mamdani the moment he secured the Democratic nomination.

I think the parsimonious explanation here is probably that her recent break w Trump shook loose some career opportunity conversations and she’s excited to cash out
BREAKING: Marjorie Taylor Greene says she's resigning from Congress — effective January 5, 2026.

very funny to watch my timeline here try to make sense of the Mamdani/Trump summit. A testament to Trump’s enduring and superior ability to fuck with you.

That’s what it’s about: an aged master of the media recognizing a rising young talent. He genuinely likes people he considers peers at this.

but I think it mistakes "perfection" as a critical quality. the other part of the title is the key: "authentic". the aesthetic product matters largely because of how it connects us to our shared human social ecosystem tomlee.wtf/2023/01/27/w...
