Seems notable that after all this time the headlines I see are about a cat. Speaking as a cyclist, I dearly wish that were the moral stain we could get upset about for human drivers

So far what I see is independent analysts concluding that waymo is substantially safer than humans www.understandingai.org/p/human-driv...

(There are legitimate concerns about Tesla FSD hiding data which have come to light via the kind of dynamics I mentioned above)
Waymo has had dozens of crashes—almost all were a human driver's fault
Human drivers keep crashing into Waymos that aren't even moving.

Who do you want to collect comprehensive safety data—the companies with the cars and sensors, obliged under law to do so—or… what? If you want to allege a conspiracy to hide crashes, ok. But presumably the victims and insurance companies would have a story to tell about missing data.

“Cooperating witness” does not signify “good guy”. More commonly it means the feds had something on you and used it to compel you to snitch on someone else.

taking down the “DO NOT PLACE DRINKS ON THE JOBS COMPUTER” sign was done in the spirit of cutting unnecessary red tape

there are a number of other cultural and technological trends that are obviously relevant to the curves on this graph and if they aren't present in someone's account you should be suspicious of it
