I admire @anildash.com for trying, however gently, to push back against the AI denialism that’s so prevalent here. There is lots to fear, regret, mourn about this change. But it’s somewhere between silly and pathetic to deny these things are popular and, yes, useful www.anildash.com/2025/11/14/w...

arguably the most incredible technological achievement of my lifetime (not counting the internet) is that they managed to make vegetarian food actually taste good.
vegan breakfast sausage is good enough now that we should get rid of the regular stuff
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I do think *some* of the NYT hate here is overblown. if you got an email from a scumbag asking you to use your bully pulpit to prosecute a grudge against another scumbag... you might reasonably say to yourself "I'm gonna let one of his other email recipients pick this one up"
If we're charitable, some of the journalists may have had legitimate reasons, but it's pretty extraordinary how many prominent men continued trading friendly e-mails with Epstein long after he was exposed as a child predator on a horrific scale.

For folks (and journalists) who want to search the Oversight Committee email texts, I made a database for searching the 20k text files:

Spent half a sec checking whether I could vibe code a static site but ran out of time (doc total is around 2gb, a little big for in browser to be def viable). Surprised no one has tho
At last: every American is getting to discover the joys of doing doc review.

(Can the Oversight committee load the trove up in a Relativity instance or something?)

The @brianbeutler.bsky.social theory that Trump was a cooperating witness is how you square this circle. Burning a witness for political expediency really would have been a horrible precedent. But now here we are!
I'm not sure why the Biden administration didn't release the files when they were in power, but I am 100% sure that if they had Leavitt and all the other MAGA flaks would have howled that Biden was "weaponizing government" to "attack his political rivals" or something.

this is a good post www.slowboring.com/p/did-prison... and I am sharing it here knowing how bsky norms will receive it

a point Matt doesn't make is that deinstitutionalization can't be understood absent the context of the advent of antipsychotics.
Did prison just replace mental hospitals?

haven't been reading hackaday regularly for a while--they kinda burnt through hobbyist topics and moved onto cool but unattainable industrial stuff--which I guess is why I'm only learning about ESP-NOW today. pretty cool, kinda sits between LoRA and BLE advertisements in complexity/power

Finally got to write about this obsession. Elon pushed people to stop linking the articles they were talking about. He's started to roll that back, but we were left with a culture of people yelling at screenshots of headlines on monetized accounts

Vermont's alt weekly has a single RSS feed, so you get the obits with the stories. I found this one particularly gutting.

always have mixed feelings about headlines like this.

is it bad? yes, very bad

is it inevitable, given these platforms' scale & human nature? maybe

is it a good idea to discourage Meta from writing reports about the problem, even internally, & instead opt to hide it? ...probably not, I'm afraid
“Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, documents seen by Reuters show. And the social media giant internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day.”
Meta is earning a fortune on a deluge of fraudulent ads, documents show
