This may or may not be what they’re thinking. But if it’s not, it’s completely unclear what path they see back to a country where the other party feels bound by basic procedural rules. “If Republicans get 49% of the vote they can ignore the Constitution” isn’t a functional principle.
Elite Dems’ entire theory of the case is that if they’re just quiet and wait things out, the country will inevitably return to the “normal politics“ of the 1990s and ‘90s that they’re used to.

In fact I’d say our elites largely treat this whole situation as weightless - a kind of rhetorical war in the meme space. They can’t comprehend the prospect of an America that looks substantially different than ours. They can’t imagine their safety or privileges would be truly at risk.

there are a million ways you can tell how little this country cares about children, but the way adults just shrug and move on as these stories drop, day after day, week after week. I don't know. it really shocks me.

1) going to keep saying: a society that wants to keep functioning must discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

2) calling a lie a lie seems like it could help

studying feminist history has left me with this weird thing where i treat the women involved in women's liberation as like actual complex human beings who are almost never wholly villains or heroes, who you can learn from no matter their flaws and failures

It’s simple, really: if any woman anywhere has ever done anything wrong, then women as a class are not entitled to a freedom struggle.

No no no no , you don’t understand: any flaw, failure, myopia, or strategic misstep in any feminist—ever, at any time, throughout the whole history of the movement—delegitimizes and renders suspect the entire concept of women’s liberation.

We couldn’t possibly be in a worse information environment for what’s happening. Which is probably, in part, why it’s happening.

i always wonder if folks who say this realize they're pushing the other side's narrative? "red states contain only people who voted that way/live those values, and anyone there harmed by their policies doesn't count bc they shouldn't live there" ...like. listen. you're singing the other side's song
When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.

I can confirm the PBS Passport is a very good deal for $5/month or $2.50/month if you do yearly.

Thousands of hours of top notch content. NOVA is great. The new Ken Burns doc on Leonardo da Vinci is excellent.
