Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

"Things happen" sometimes, like when you walk into an embassy to apply for your marriage license while your bride-to-be waits outside, but then you get bonesawed to pieces for having exercised freedom of speech as an US-based journalist and have to be carried out in a series of suitcases.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

As much as I believe they're still people made in God's image, pissing on their graves sounds awfully tempting.
Trump to MBS: "We pray that we will be celebrated by our own descendants someday."

“He believes that nothing can or should exist beyond him”

This is the key that unlocks the door to understanding Trump. Hard for sane people to wrap their minds around. But if you truly understand this you will understand him and his decision making process, such as it is.
I asked @maryltrump.bsky.social about how this all might end--what it would look like. Here's part of what she said: "He will burn it all down."

I envy the timelines where covid didn't happen, trmp never went down his golden escalator, and maybe the world and climate change all kept getting better after Carter.
Sometimes I wonder what the other timeline versions of me are doing. At one point I was a parent. At another I was married. And then somewhere in the midst I just huddled down and just focused on either my art or writing.

To them I send all my love regardless.

i’ll put it as plain as i can: if you’re a guy and you feel this way, you should to a professional. something’s wrong.
every time some prominent man is like ‘but all men want to fuck 17 year olds! every last one!’ i feel just fucking empty man. because there’s no way to confirm it isn’t true is there? i can’t prove that all of civilization isn’t just an elaborate cover for men’s supposed desperation to fuck children

According to a new analysis by Democrats on the Joint Economic Committee, the average American family has paid more than $700 in higher costs per month since Trump took office.

Remember when Trump said he would end inflation on "day one"?

This is so true and makes me so sad.
We could've had VP Tim Walz sharing his Thanksgiving dressing recipe right now, but no

Even if you ignore the things that we don’t know yet about whatever Trump did or did not do with Epstein, we do know this:

This year, the only person ever convicted of child sex trafficking with Jeffrey Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, was moved by the Trump admin to a luxury prison.

Where does one even begin? I'm always amazed by @hcrichardson.bsky.social 's persistence to synthesize daily News, despite the madness.

He’s panicking.

Perhaps emails will end it.

Yes part of Angus King's (post hoc) rationale for capitulating to Trump is that he's trying to save the country from...a Senate where Dems could codify Roe with 50 votes.

Good time to remind folks that Janet Mills said just weeks ago that she wants to keep the filibuster if she wins. #MEpolitics
Straightforward confirmation from Angus King that the gang of eight made the deal out of earnest concern for the filibuster. www.pressherald.com/2025/11/13/w...

Weird thing about this is Angus King caved from basically the beginning: He's one of the three (including Fetterman) who voted to capitulate a full month ago. (tinyurl.com/3y7v89zx)

So the idea that he 'got what we wanted' or there was some sophisticated calculus at work makes no sense. #MEpolitics

It all would have been much easier if, as would have happened if we were remotely a serious country, it all ended with the Access Hollywood interview.

If we thought shit was crazy in this country, I'm guessing we're about to see it ramped up even higher. The next couple of days are going to be bonkers.

Release all the Epstein files.

Jared Golden @jaredgolden.bsky.social is my rep, and I consistently get the vibe from him like someone who is an abusive relationship, but hasn't come to terms with that fact yet. Even after he's stepped down.
seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous
