Hi I’m Sean! 👋 I’m a remote-worker tech generalist with a focus on cybersecurity and ops of web SaaS companies. I’ve been in this industry in some form for 20 years. I also post about politics and DIY engineering projects. My dream encore career is developing a mentor/apprentice model for tech.

I’m about halfway through a proper OCR run with segmented layout regions to extract actual metadata from the emails. I hope to post a proper update to the corpus tomorrow along with graphs between named entities.

And the iMessage transcripts are about to get an update unmasking a few names.

I think people are very accustomed to technology trying to meet them where they are. It’s widely accepted as a UX best practice. Frankly it’s kind of amazing that technology can do that at all.

But technology can’t think or adapt, and it works much better when you meet it where IT is.

Had a minute while eating lunch, and thinking about something -- I wonder how much of LLM-usage misfire comes from not understanding the tools you're using.

This has come to mind to me because of Claude Code, and how some people are able to use them effectively and some are Just Not.

It is high past time for the Democrats to go full-send on a rampaging, ferocious, fire and brimstone anti-corruption push.

The people thirst for it.
i’ve said this before and i remain convinced it’s true, the 2028 platform that would deliver obama 08 results is “i am gonna
bring the hammer down on the corrupt self-dealing politicians and their rich friends and there are no sacred cows id give a pass”

this is what separates them from us, and it drives them crazy
"This could take down Democrats, too."

I know. And I frankly wouldn't give even an itty bitty damn if it implicated every Democratic man in Congress, every Democratic hopeful for 2028 and every Democrat who has even thought about running for office.

Down with the sex predators, wherever they are.

There is a cardinal sin of the internet, a red line from beyond which no redemption can ever be achieved. You must never, under any circumstances, try to talk to someone about DNS.

In 2028 I want to hear from candidates who is going to be AG, and what is their media plan for the perp walks. I want a perp walk every day. Calm, with the presumption of innocence, into a speedy trial where the public is told exactly what these people have done.

NEWSKIE: Oh god, I hate "skeets", people should stop calling posts "skeets."

ME: They're called "skeets," and I will die on this hill. It's skeetin' time!

The pop scifi story in my head here is that these black holes represent logical gaps in the human mind's ability to comprehend the universe. After all, the shape of the model is a reflection of the training set, which is limited by human language, which is itself limited by human perception.
But there's a problem with my theory. Qwen 2.5 and Qwen 3 don't have a single ancient primordial black hole. They have several. Qwen 3 has 13 and Qwen 2.5 has 60. And what's more, they appear to be densely packed along with a slush of singleton tokens, all clustered at the lower limit of bfloat16.

ryan is right. people HATE hearing this. but it is just a matter of simple incentives. if you want a more representative legislature — and if you want a legislature more resistant to corruption — then you need to jack up the salaries. serving as mayor of NYC should net you a cool 500K *at least*
people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up
The Mayor of New York only makes $260k. I bet there are police that make more than that in NY with overtime.

We need to pay elected leaders more money and stop pretending it's some sort of calling. They're managing hundreds of billions of dollars in investments and millions of people's lives.

Everyone loves to cite the list of people who dared to do bold things and won despite all odds.

Nobody loves to cite the much, much, much longer list of people who dared to do bold things that ended up being too bold and didn't work out the way they hoped.

This makes me think of one time I was in Moore, Oklahoma in like September 2018 or so, and some random law office had "9/11 Never Forget" on their marquee. It felt so bizarrely out of time and place. Less like a memorial and more like a grudge.

Anyway, congrats to the first Muslim NYC Mayor.
Checking in on Rudy Giuliani, I see he's having an insane one

ah, perhaps instead of pumping millions into endless factional infighting Dem donors could invest in making local Dem organizations genuine civic spaces that can reach people during and between elections

Dramatically increase the salaries of local and state level elected officials so that working people can afford to run for office.

Do all of this and also declare NAR an enemy of the state.
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"
