I just tried to explain my extended South Louisiana family to my wife, who's absolutely not from there, and I wound up looking like Charlie in It's Always Sunny. Extended families in the South are very much not tied by blood.

We are so fucking close to eradicating HIV like we did with smallpox but we have the dumbest fucking people on the planet in charge of health policy. If you didn't grow up in the 80s-early 90s, you might not realize what a huge deal that would be. Instead, our government is pro disease now.
