This experience of trying to discuss patriarchy outside the West and immediately being talked over by women going "WELL IT'S BAD IN THE WEST TOO" is so frustrating and ubiquitous. We're starting to notice and demand answers as to why we can't discuss our experiences without false equivalencies.

I will be a forever hater of the term “cancel culture,” a truly epic tool of context collapse and reductionism that has only benefited the powerful. Folks are always using this term to talk about critique of a celebrity and social campaigns against the marginalized like they’re the same phenomenon.

I don't think shame is a bad motivator at all. I think it's so effective that the overculture got us not to do it because there's SO much complicity people should be ashamed of, and to atone for it would require them to dismantle every aspect of the society into which they were indoctrinated.
