This beautiful, poignant, still-grieving thread… 💕
LONG RAMBLING EMOTIONAL THREAD:

It's World AIDS Day. Since the Administration has decided to keep it quiet, I'd like to share my introduction to AIDS.

I grew up in Seattle. My mom remarried a man who had a brother who was a King County Sheriff's Deputy. His name was Terry and he was gay. 1/x

It really does seem painfully obvious that a large part of Glinner’s pathology is him being a frustrated chaser or even trans wannabe who originally thought his fame would just get him some, and everything else is a revenge spiral fuelled by seething self-hatred.
Graham Linehan is a normal and well man.

Just another GC nutter thinking they’re more entitled than everyone else.

The Sun has been told Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood will on Monday propose confiscating jewellery, watches, necklaces from asylum seekers to meet asylum costs

This reflects the most controversial aspect of the Danish scheme - the Jewellery Law. The toughest Labour MPs thought this was OTT

It's Sunday, the day when many of the people who say "you can't change your sex!" and "nobody is born in the wrong body" gather to eat crackers and wine that they claim is flesh and blood, and talk about being "born again."

Further down this 🧵: there have been less than one deportation every 3 years stopped by the ECHR. This is not about immigration; this is about leaving human rights behind so the gov’t can do whatever the f**k it wants to anyone who crosses it, including very minority not deemed worthy of protection.
There is no difference in practice between removing rights of individuals and leaving the ECHR. The end outcome is still the same, people lose rights. If human rights are an obstacle to your policy it is not the rights which are the issue, it is your policy. Labour going full Reform at this stage.

One thing that I think is important from this is that her response is actually, for once, just common sense. She correctly highlights that there has never been (legally speaking) enforced sex seggregation in bathrooms. There have always been exceptions and it's always been an honour system.

All we need is a new war of independence…from the US.
If the UK is on the brink of civil war, as Musk claims, it follows that in 300 years time there will be be a new generation of civil war re-enactment societies.

We picked this up on Freecycle today. A beautiful Philips 970 music system with vinyl, cassette, and suoerb tuner. Added a few vinyl faves from our local recycling centre. I adore classical music, and there’s no end of fabulous recordings for about £1 ea. Tripping on serious nostalgia right now.

I have spoken professionally about the supposed "rights in conflict" frame multiple times, including at an international human rights conflict.

This frame is not new, and it is almost always factually wrong. And when it is correct, it is almost always for a situation already adequately resolved.
" two competing strands of rights at issue: the rights of trans people, as recognised, for example, in Goodwin; and the rights of women to be protected from violence by men"

🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Probably worth noting here that in the Supreme Court submission, the EHRC decided not to bother taking the Human Rights Act into account 🤯

I hope Dawkins takes note. All he did was write some popular books. This doesn’t mean history will ignore the rest of his sh*t.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

Absolutely spot on. If the GCs really cared about women and children, they’d be doing something to address the massive problems that aren’t caused by a scarce minority living as themselves.
“That is what makes it so morally bewildering to me that these culture war clowns are supposed to be a bastion of women’s rights. While they try to strip the dignity from a marginalised minority, frontline women’s services are on the verge of collapse.”

Zohran Mamdani polled +40% on men under 30. So we wasted all that time on all those think pieces about how we need a Joe Rogan for the left, when what we actually needed were *policies* for the left.

Trans rights are not niche. They’re a test of integrity, truth, and courage. The BBC and the government both face a choice: serve the public, or serve those who thrive on hate disguised as debate.

UK Labour go, meh, we’re good. “Send more TERFs!”
Don't forget that Zohran Mamdani spent his entire campaign standing proudly beside the trans community. He went to trans rights rallies just to show support. He proudly waved trans rights flags without hesitation. He refused to back down in support of trans rights. That makes me happy.
