American elites: Clearly the electorate has issued a crushing and total reputation of liberalism. We have no choice but to honor the will of the volk and dismantle the republic.

American peasants: I voted for increased taxes on imports to make them cheaper but it made them more expensive instead :(

How is it that our system at the moment puts the objectively worst people in charge of so many things. I don’t think it was always like this. wtf kind of rot has occurred, how do we fix it.
i have personally despised bari weiss for a long time, her book was incoherent garbage, and to see her rewarded with the plum of the profession while the smartest people i know are scraping for dollars is gross as hell

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

What gets me about the escalator freakout is how much it illustrates that these guys really will not feel safe or satisfied until nothing ever goes wrong for them no matter what. Jesus didn't get that deal and He is the son of God who is also God. Like, fuck, you can't surrender to that, literally.

This is the playbook, folks.

If you're not paying attention now and doing something about it, then you're going to have to sit down the rest of your life because democracy is being taken away.

Do not be quiet in this moment.

A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.

This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.

All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

It's the same exact impulse where, in order to avoid any sense of implicit liberal bias in their coverage, they've overcorrected to taint said coverage with explicit conservative bias, right down to which media criticism they see as valid and which they see as only deserving scorn.

Dems should literally create a collaborator's list and put names of institutions and people on it. "Here are people who helped undermine the US Constitution in order to help themselves." Anyone who goes on the list should know they're never coming off it.
100% correct. We started to see Jamie Raskin do this with big law. It needs to keep happening. Make it clear there will be a massive, everlasting cost to folding to this administration.
Democrats need to directly attack and pressure institutions for caving to Trump. As in, they need to give speeches and call out - by name - companies, universities, and law firms that have acceded to his illegal demands. If they don't, the path of least resistance will always be acquiescence.
