Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

Just so I'm clear:

TV host says we should kill every homeless person? No big deal

TV host says the right must "go to war" with the left? Pfft.

TV host says the government is cracking down on critics? Well, the government cracks down on him for the criticism.

Free speech, everyone.

Suddenly "hate speech" is bad. Suddenly "dehumanizing" people is bad. Suddenly "cancel culture" is good. Suddenly words have consequences.

People missing an important point about folks getting fired for whatever they said about Charlie Kirk: Americans are being conditioned to be snitches on their fellow citizens who don’t toe a party line on what is “allowed” to be expressed. And employers are going along. It’s the new secret police

The president is sending the military to control American cities and if you're a reporter who's framing that illegal power grab as "pushing the boundaries of constitutionality" or "acting boldly to fight crime" or whatever, please go find another line of work where you won't get us all killed.

There are a LOT of politicians, journalists, anchors, and pundits doing this right now. Most of these folks are doing at least pretty okay financially. Some of them are doing great. They have solid access, they get big party invites, they're primed for book deals and speaking gigs, promotions, etc.

Those engaged in "brand protection" are the folks in politics who believe there's a decent chance we'll get through this, but they don't wanna spend any political capital to proactively help because they wanna come out on the other side of this thing stronger than ever, so they stay low-key.

Very striking how every right-wing conspiracy freakout was just a prophecy of what they planned on eventually doing - whether it was Jade Helm or FEMA camps, the moment they had the opportunity to make these imaginary monstrosities they came up with come to life, they did

Let’s break this down—because the gaslighting is wild:

📌Oct 2022 – Biden signs EO to cut drug prices

📌Jan 2025 – Trump takes office and kills Biden’s EO to cut drug prices

📌May 2025 – Trump signs his own EO to lower drug prices

Trump canceled Biden’s plan then brought it back w/his name on it.

In New York, ICE detained a busload of farmworkers that were actively involved in a union drive.

In Washington state, ICE dragged a farmworkers’ rights activist and leader out of his car to detain him.

Be warned: attacking unions is a hallmark of fascism.

This is deranged. Jan. 6 defendants were repped by one of the best public defender offices in the U.S. They were more likely to be released pretrial & got comparatively light sentences. SCOTUS threw out a bunch of convictions, which almost never happens. They got gold-plated due process!

Additionally: The idea that there are political consequences to focussing on the men sent to El Salvador arose whole-cloth from social media. Left-center social media users' prediliction towards contrarianism is a scourage. Every piece of concrete evidence points towards the public paying attention.
I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.
