Every time I say this, I get some type of backlash, but to be a good writer, you have to be a good reader. Yes, read your niche, but read widely too. I read poetry, horror, graphic novels, picture books, and non-fiction, too. It's only made my writing better.

I don’t know who needs to hear this (yes I do it’s everyone) but you’re allowed to have fun with your own existence.
You can enjoy it, make it art, take the piss out of yourself, laugh at and enjoy and be absurd strange little creatures all you want.
In fact I recommend it.

Just saw someone complaining that “GDT removed the homoerotic vibes.” I need an intervention. Force me to block key words. I cannot keep dealing with people who don’t understand sexual subtext unless it’s shoved into them with a lightning-powered dildo.
Frankenstein discourse is exhausting. I’m still itching to have in-depth discussions but imagine the pearl-clutching on Threads if I posited that Victor and Elizabeth’s relationships to the Creature are paternal and maternal but also violently erotic vs. innocently so.
