I really hope the BBC New’s political team has an overhaul soon, the analysis is far too superficial - they should be doing what you do, a proper deep dive each day into everything going on. That’s the BBC’s responsibility, not trying to outdo other newspapers.

I honestly can’t believe how nobody in the Westminster bubble seems to be thinking about/pricing in a Trump/MAGA power grab in 2028

They literally tried it already, and are far, far more capable now

If this happens will have serious blow back for radical right outside US

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

It doesn’t surprise me that our young people are leaving the UK. Why stay in a narrow minded, racist, misogynistic, backward thinking country if you have other options. Farage and Robinson have made UK, England specifically, a bad option. Wake up People.

Two years in a row she's done a very recognisably Classic Labour tax-to-spend Budget, though this year's is more spend now-tax later. She doesn't go either big or home, rules matter to her, she doesn't do surprises; you can go mad trying to overthink it but it's in the end not that complicated

Honestly, it is possible to think 'I work hard to earn money; I deserve that money' and *also* 'it would be good if we created a more equal society: I'll help'. Exhausting to see everything presented as a fight to the death between those two ideas, seemingly forever.

The Daily Mail, Daily Express, Times and Daily Telegraph are ALL carrying this two-page advert prominently within their news pages today.

That tells you a LOT about these newspapers - and the £££ available to Farage

Some sympathy for this potentially made up woman but I wonder how the poster feels about the numerous people who would love to be able to call a house their own and form relationships with their neighbours but can't because of the housing market. Does their emotional plea count for anything?
Mumsnet is already on the case.

On Sky Politics Hub, the whole budget was framed as if somehow the most consequential thing was the OBR accidentally publishing figures an hour early. There are 50 things in there more salient to viewers. I see no way to justify it editorially, other than to construct a hostile narrative. Poor.

For 50 years the orthodoxy has been that the majority of investment has to be private investment. Well, private investment has let this country down- and most of the rest of the world. It’s time to raise sufficient taxation from private wealth to prevent runaway inflation while building publicly

Big fear for the Budget was the green transition.

✅ Heat pump funding remains.
✅ VAT remains on gas.
✅ Support for EVs extended.
✅ Renewable charges removed from electricity.
🤷🏻‍♂️ EV per-mile charge - barrier to entry as in NZ?
🤷🏻‍♂️ North Sea drilling
🤷🏻‍♂️ Fuel duty increase. U-turn likely?

Ok overall.

The two-child cap pushed half of children in larger families into poverty. Today, Labour abolishes it.

I stood for office to stop drawing charts and start changing them. This change will see the biggest drop in child poverty of any parliament on record.

Know what that is? Hope.

This Labour Budget puts more money in people’s pockets and helps ease the pressure of the cost of living.

A practical step that will make a real difference across our communities. #Budget
