so our government made a big deal about banning speed cameras but one city left theirs running to see what difference the ban would make and you are not going to believe this

Well, I guess EMay's leadership and political career is cooked. Green Party members aren't going to appreciate this after her full support for the Carney budget.
The MOU goes much farther than many people expected, giving Alberta's oil producers literally every item on their list of demands, while getting basically nothing in return. Alberta will negotiate a carbon price, something the province had already agreed to the last time Ottawa gave them a pipeline.

Councillor Holyday needs to bring one of these signs into a Toronto City Council meeting as a prop.

It would be so on-brand.

I don't know how he would hide it before the grand reveal though.
So the province’s replacement for speed cameras (now banned) are giant signs that are too big for municipal signposts and large enough for an adult let alone a child to hide behind (good luck crossing the street safely). Ontario also only gave @toronto.ca 20 signs for 600 school zones & 75 cameras🤯🤬

BC has a ParlSec for Armed Forces Development & Veterans?

Does any other province have anything close to equivalent? What would their role be besides being an interface to the federal ministries?
Congratulations to Darlene Rotchford on her appointment as Parliamentary Secretary for Armed Forces.

Looking forward to working w/ her to strengthen military ties and align BC's skills training with defence priorities in aerospace and shipbuilding under our #LookWest strategy.🚢

Lol, is this what we're getting in Toronto too?

Given the impunity we saw with speed cameras getting cut down, no reason to expect that these extra large signs won't get the same treatment.

Their scale is just incredibly meme-worthy.

Predicting that this will be the next viral photography location in Toronto, the future "Love You More Lane".

Also hoping that the street sign unit plans for plenty of replacements.

I see this fallacy almost every day, in tech and politics:
1. There is a problem
2. We believe that our solution will fix the problem
3. We built the solution
4. Therefore the problem is now fixed

Bitch, no. You have to check.

Let's talk about leading and trailing indicators.

Toronto deliberately killed apartment construction in the early 1970s, after a generation-long building boom.

Almost all of that housing was built by “the market.”

This sounds like something biblical frankly. Or the realm of sci-fi.

Well, there's some fantastic grist for sci-fi writers.
I've said it before and I will say it again. There is no way to secure a system when it's potential attack surface is *all of language*
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Wild (and great) story that's just the start of a massive change in how we attempt to validate information.

And I don't know if we'll be able to do much more than attempt.
A few months ago @thelocal.to got a promising pitch from a writer with bylines in whole bunch of reputable publications—The Cut, The Guardian, Dwell, Architectural Digest, etc. Then I started investigating. Here's a story about fabulists in journalism's AI slop era. thelocal.to/investigatin...
