November is great. We should not allow the erasure of the back half of fall due to making the year about christmas right after halloween. Embrace your time and live in it!!

Elon saying he’s going to reprogram his chatbot’s view of history is a perfect example of why these kinds of AI products aren’t the neutral “tools” people always defend them as. They’re little political projects reflecting the ideologies of their creators

I joined Bluesky exactly two years ago and I wrote a piece about my thoughts on the platform - how it's been coming along so far and where it seems fated to go. Thanks for reading.

The whole 'Grok is a boer now' thing is very funny, but it also really exposes how every 'AI tool' isn't just passively biased from training data, but actively designed to shape your worldview according to the interests of the billionaires who made them.

In general, I think we'll look back on from the 2005-2025 era and realize they worked to deskill everyone--from casual users down to actual coders--in anything related to computers.

I'm often teaching undergrads things like "how to save a file as PDF" even. AI really accelerates this trend though.

Democrats have too much respect for the voters. They assume they're making complex, nuanced, reasoned decisions and must be approached with care, while Republicans assume voters are simplistic and emotional and you have to pound them over the head with your message. Guess which is more effective.

"Imagine a world in which an A.I. can analyze your reading patterns and alert you that you’re about to buy a book where there’s only a 10 percent chance you’ll get past Page 6..."

Fuck off. That's not empowerment, that's outsourcing your soul. That's outsouling.

People. TikTok, like all the other awful social media platforms, led plenty of people to hateful right-wing content. Trad wives, manosphere influencers, Trumpists (as Trump himself bragged about) etc. were all huge on there.

None of these billionaire big tech corporations are our friends.
i remain professionally convinced that tiktok wasn’t banned for either the stated reasons (national security & data privacy) or competitive reasons (ads on tiktok worked compared to IG/FB/Snap/TW)

TikTok was banned because it is/was monstrously effective at teaching people empathy of others
I am watching 30 years of propaganda melt away at first contact with actual Chinese folks.

Every comment section on RedNote are the Chinese users welcoming the Americans, "I'm so glad you're here! We can be friends now! We are not enemy!"

That being an "independent" artist means being trapped by Kindle/TikTok/Spotify etc. algorithms and ecosystems, combined with a decimation of artist payouts by those same corporations (requiring ever more virality to survive)... I think this basically defines so much of modern culture.
