The first step towards saving our precious BBC: remove Robbie Gibb from the board | Ed Davey
The BBC belongs to all of us, and it is under attack as never before. The government must defend it from its enemies, within and without, says Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey

If we stand by and do nothing, history will brand us the weakest generation in British history—the ones who let extremism triumph. We cannot, we must not, let that happen.

The BBC isn't perfect. But it remains an institution defending British values against a populist, Trump-style takeover.

Party leaders must unite to defend it.

This is a clever letter from the Lib Dems, challenging other party leaders to say whether they support the BBC or Trump. For the Tories in particular there is a real risk their inherent anti BBC-ness makes them look like they endorse Trump’s fairly deranged comments about the BBC.
I’ve written to Keir Starmer, Kemi Badenoch and Nigel Farage urging them to condemn Donald Trump’s attack on the BBC.

The BBC belongs to Britain, not Trump. We must defend it together.

With the whole of the political right ganging up on the BBC the only political leader prepared to defend the BBC and pubic service broadcasting is @eddavey.libdems.org.uk, well done him 👏

So far, only one political leader is prepared to mount an outspoken defence of the BBC
As part of its editorial independence, the appointment of the BBC's next editor-in-chief is meant to be entirely down to its own independent board - and out of the hands of ministers.

Panorama Documentary loaded the gun and handed it to the right wing.
I hope Starmer takes the opportunity to restore the BBC”s credibility with genuinely unbiased management seeking truth above anything else.
This will be the last chance.
@eddavey.libdems.org.uk speaking sense over BBC 'there are people on the right of British politics who are following Trump's America + don't believe in a free, independent press...+ strong BBC... we are deeply worried that we're seeing right wing populism damaging our institutions like the BBC'

God he's such a clown. Cannot stand him, he has such an adversarial, depressing vibe about him like Badenoch. Honestly he may even be a narcissist that's how much he makes me uncomfortable.

I respect and Ed Davey because he is prepared to work with others. It is so much more productive.

I don't disagree with their policies, as such. I'm a Lib Dem. We were a green party before Zack was a glint in the gardener's eye. He was even a Lib Dem once.

My objection is the appeal to populism without pragmatism which has been (and probably always will be) the favoured policy of all zealots.

Perhaps you remember this.

The Liberal Democrats were the only major UK political party to officially oppose the 2003 Iraq War. Their then-leader, Charles Kennedy, was a prominent speaker at the massive anti-war rally in Hyde Park, London, on February 15,
2003.

LibDems Party is not one man.
I'd actually be more likely to vote for Nick Clegg than Ed Davey. I don't remember any of the Lib Dems' policies from the last election, but I do remember every time I scrolled down my news feed seeing images of Davey paragliding or windsurfing or whatever, with an inane grin on his face.

Suggest you look at election results instead of polls. The only party stopping Reform at the ballot box is the LibDems.

A populist like Zac says what people want to hear rather than develop sound policy. He opposite side of the same coin that Farage uses. A bit of research shows that he wants to leave NATO get rid of our nuclear deterrent and destroy the economy trying to reach net zero too fast causing the opposite.
Greens are cranks. From top to bottom. Every policy area. They should be regarded as being no different from Reform in the threat they represent.

Nigel Farage used to believe in reforming the voting system, now he's rowed back because it no longer benefits him.

We will keep fighting for a fair votes, not because it benefits us but because it's right for the country.

Ed Davey has done more to attack Farage than other party leader. He has done this in Parliament and in the media. This call for PR is to prevent Farage getting power.

Keir Starmer needs to wake up and fix our broken voting system before the next election, or he risks letting Nigel Farage into Number 10.

We will keep fighting for fair votes to make sure every voice is heard.

If Lab, LibDems and Greens don’t have the sense and care to form some sort of arrangement to save us from fascist Reform they will never be forgiven. If Reform win there won’t be another meaningful election to get rid of them.

I suggest that anyone who reads the LibDems chosen route to achieve net zero and a pollution free environment will conclude that what we intend is possible and sustainable.
I don’t think the Greens will achieve their goals without considerable changes to their methods.
