I made a starter pack for KS5 maths (teachers, posters, and other people involved in it)
Most of the starter packs I've seen for maths teachers have been for all age groups, so this one is aimed towards sixth form (16-19 ish)
Please let me know if you'd like adding (or removing)!

After rewatching Home Alone, Luis Batalha couldn’t stop wondering:
how plausible is the oversleep that leaves Kevin behind?
So he wrote a tiny paper and ran the numbers.

Accurate 😅 (although they missed 21, which was the scourge of my early teaching career!)

Love this 😅
Bored over the festive season? We're still seeking contributions to our ridiculous saytheprime.com video project: sign up and make a 5-minute video of yourself saying a chunk of digits of the largest known prime number. Can we finish before they discover a bigger one? It's a race against maths!
Say the Prime
We're attempting to get a collection of humans to say every digit of the newly-discovered (and currently largest-known prime number) Mersenne prime M136279841, and hope to achieve this before another…

Oh, there's my further maths starter for the first day back 🙌 #MathsToday
a lot of people are aware that you can factor
2025 = 45²

i'm honored to announce the factorization
2026 = (45-i)(45+i)

It's been a long term, but we made it to the holidays... and if you're in the northern hemisphere, the days start getting longer from tomorrow 🥳 Happy winter solstice!

Ah, the festive gap on my phone where the Teams app usually lives 🥰🎄 See you in January!

Can confirm that marking #ALevelMaths papers from back to front is a game changer. I mark question-by-question, so starting with the harder ones at the back and finishing with the quick ones at the front is simply glorious 🙌 #MathsToday
In #MathsToday this week it is mock week. I will be trialling marking my #ALevelMaths papers from back to front, because the last couple of questions are always the hardest to mark (compared to the first few, which are usually easy/multiple choice) I will update on my findings 😁

Made me chuckle 😂
But is it "CAT-inary" or "Ca-TEEN-ary"? (I usually avoid the issue by saying "cosh curve"...)

In #MathsToday my #ALevelMaths students have been creating their own Elf on the Shelf puzzles using teachers in the maths department (mine is below) and sticking them anonymously around the corridors. They think they are incredibly funny and are very pleased with themselves 🤣

In #MathsToday (this evening) I will mainly be working through the GCHQ Christmas Challenge so that I can do them when I give them to the students tomorrow 😅😄

The International Space Station has a tank that converts urine back into drinking water. You can see up to date levels of all the waste tanks online.
This would make for a nice lesson on real-life data/graphs 😅📈📉📊 #MathsToday

Hi everyone! Please share this to any secondary Maths teachers 😊:
I have created a Christmas Maths exam paper in the style of Edexcel for my year 11 class for a bit of fun. Please feel free to use it too:

In #MathsToday I sent out a teaser on Teams for the Elf on the Shelf competition, then at the end of the day my colleague and I stuck 31 puzzles on the walls around our teaching area ready for Monday morning 😅🎄

In #MathsToday I was teaching the Travelling Salesperson Problem. I might have been a bit sarcastic when I said, "When I did this at A Level, it was called the Travelling Salesman Problem, but I guess someone in the last 20 years must have realised that women can also have delivery jobs..."

In #MathsToday my colleague and I were free, but rather than doing the mountain of work that we both had to do we spent the whole lesson updating the Maths Elf on the Shelf competition for next week. Merkel on a Circle is now out, because most 16-18 year olds no longer know who Angela Merkel is 😆

This is brilliant. Definitely giving it to my further maths students as an end of term puzzle 😄🎄

Thought it might be easier to amend it directly. I quite like this title too
