I do think that the SAT is measuring something, and that something has something to do with both natural aptitude and cultivated aptitude for academic success. But the best argument for it as a measure is that our alternatives (Extracurriculars! Essays! Leadership potential! Vibes!) are much worse.

Holidays are coming up, a perfect time to remind your MAGA family members that Epstein is only part of the story, Trump has been importing foreign sex traffickers and giving them special protection.

Then ask, "so did Trump bring the Tate brothers here as a replacement for Epstein's services?"

@kenwhite.bsky.social do you generally recommend that a client fabricate grand jury records (at least in part) in order to rush out an indictment before the statute of limitations hits in order to please Dear Leader?

Great news. This is what an ICE agent looks like in a mugshot. Meet Gerardo Rodriguez, 45, of Temecula, courtesy of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office. Arrested for "illegally detaining a minor at gunpoint while off duty last week." 🧵

Mark Wolf, a federal judge appointed by Reagan, is resigning after 40 years on the bench.

In an essay published by The Atlantic this week, he wrote, “The White House’s assault on the rule of law is so deeply disturbing to me that I feel compelled to speak out. Silence, for me, is now intolerable.”

If republicans can get democrats to cave by mere threat of the filibuster then the filibuster is effectively eliminated when republicans are in charge.

Tim Miller is right - it’s a game of chicken with someone who wants to crash the car.

But to heck with it. Crash the car.

We’re playing this game where everyone knows Trump knew but Republicans are like “Betcha can’t prove it, though!” And then we have to go find direct evidence.

He knew, you know he know, they know he knew, he knows he knew. Everyone knows. They just don’t think they have to care unless it’s proven.

The market for health care isn’t at all like the market for apples or oranges. It’s life-and-death, with info gaps, emergencies, and insurance market failures. That’s why we regulate and subsidize. Pretending the market works isn't a plan, just as a “plan in 2 weeks” isn’t a plan.

Can everyone stop pretending that the new CBS is in the news business, and admit that it’s a post-truth propagandistic organization, now that they openly admit it?
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

Still thinking about this story. Imagine how cooked your brain has to be on Fox News -- how terrified you have to be, every day in your isolated suburban castle -- to start *shooting* when you see brown people at your door, before the door is even open. We're such a nation of terrified cowards.
Cleaning worker who mistakenly went to wrong home fatally shot: Police
The shooting victim died from a gunshot wound to the head, the coroner's office said.

It’s insane to treat the filibuster as the most sacrosanct.

Article 1 power of the purse, oversight, and war? Nah.

Emoluments clauses? Bribery prohibition? Meh.

Criminal law? 14A? Doesn’t count.

But maybe the Senate changes a rule it has multiple times before? Gasp! Not that. Anything but that.

This entire article points out that there is no plan. His own Treasury Secretary says he doesn’t know anything about it. So why does media keep running these kind of headlines? He keeps making these Truth Social posts and media keeps running stories as if it is something real.

There has never been any question about this, it has been Johnson's stated position this whole time, and it's what House rules and precedents unambiguously require. Seating new members takes automatic priority over any other business. They've only been delaying by not doing any business at all.
BREAKING via Punchbowl

“Speaker Mike Johnson plans to swear in Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) before the House votes on a government funding package, according to sources familiar with the planning.“
