Pretty good take haver. Democracy enjoyer. Hater of authoritarianism & populism. Globalist. Reader of history.

Harris & Mamdani appreciation account. Will tolerate shade @ Schumer.

She/her.
So am I understanding correctly that democrats won everywhere on Tuesday night except Long Island?

Yup. Figures.

Friend: Mamdani is never Tony to be able to deliver on his campaign promises.

Me: I know. That’s why I voted for him.

The problem is you need the partisans to win the midterms.

I am simultaneously outraged at the capitulation while also not surprised at all.

This is the state of our party. Tripping over themselves to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

It is time for new leadership but we all know it.

It would be deeply unwise to keep the government shut down through Jan 2027. And real people were suffering. But if Dems withheld their votes for at least several more weeks you had a decent chance that:
1) Repubs popularity falls further
and/or
2) Repubs decide to end the filibuster

I think the story here is that Chuck thinks he knows ball better than democratic base voters and I think that’s a very wrong and also very stupid gamble.

Donald Trump is Joe Biden now

POTUS's job approval on prices is where Biden's was during peak inflation in 2022-23. Voters say 2:1 that Trump has made the economy worse. Oh, and consumer sentiment among independents hit a new all-time low in November, www.gelliottmorris.com/p/donald-tru...

Eight Senate Democrats saw charts like these and decided "oh yes, now that public opinion is on our side and our opponent is facing electoral consequences for their policy choices, now is a great time to give up all of our leverage in health care negotiations" www.gelliottmorris.com/p/donald-tru...

Very well-said. ⬇️
All the yes votes came from Senators who are retiring or not up in 2026.

Voters spoke clearly on Tuesday. We wanted a fight. Dems now know reopening is an electorally indefensible position.

So they plotted to give themselves cover. Why?

They’re afraid of their own voters. Good. They should be.

I am not a gerontocracy complainer.

But I went to look at the democratic senate caucus to see who should be the next leader and my god it’s like a nursing home for old men with ED.

And anyone with even a shred of youth like Tina Smith and Michael Bennett are retiring.

My strongest belief is it’s not a moderation thing but an age thing

If you are under 45, your pivotal political memory is W Bush wrecking the world and the economy followed by McConnell wrecking American democracy.

You see republicans clearly for who they are. There is no quarter.
God help me, I fully agree with Matt Ygelsias's take on the end of the shutdown.

If the largest city in your state and the financial capital of the world just elected a 34 year old unknown progressive fighter to be its mayor, caving to Donald Trump less than a week after is political lunacy.

Schumer’s political instincts are on full display & they’re even worse than you think.
November 10, 2025 at 3:17 PM
@schumer.senate.gov I am a NYer. You are an abysmal senate minority leader & I’m contributing to @aoc.bsky.social to primary you for senate.

Retire.

I am not a progressive or a leftist. I am a normal Democrat with kids and a mortgage.

And I am tired of your weak feckless appeasement of fascists.

I heard from a bunch of federal employees last night and this morning. They aren't happy.

There's no reason to support it if they won't
