I met a legend while hanging out with another legend today. I am always humbled and grateful to be in these spaces, but today was extra magical.

Hey folks, let me tell you what is NOT helpful. When you respond to a DEI argument by weaponizing a person's color, gender, sexual preference, etc., against them because it's someone on the other side. By retaliating with, "No, YOU'RE the DEI hire!" you are adopting bigoted language. So stop it.

The Utah House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee voted unanimously today to approve Ashley’s Law, HB127, which amends the length of a sentence for rape committed against an incapacitated adult. It’s the first step to get justice for folks like Ashley Vigil.

one of the most depressing realizations in politics is the day you understand that a lot of people would legitimately prefer to spend more money to make sure nobody “undeserving” gets a benefit than to make it accessible to everyone

This story is a fascinating look into militias here in Utah and nationwide.

“Coates didn’t give a name, but he said something even more intriguing: “The sheriff is my tie-in to the state attorney general because he’s friends.””

A Mole Infiltrated the Highest Ranks of American Militias. This Is What He Found.
Outraged by the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, a wilderness survival trainer spent years undercover climbing the ranks of right-wing militias. He didn’t tell police or the FBI. He didn’t tell family or friends....

As ever, the loss of something good and useful for Americans is framed as a loss for Democrats — in the mass media, everything becomes just a political football to be kicked back and forth instead of examined for its impact on everyday citizens regardless of political party.

First reaction is to celebrate, but knowing this was AGAIN just a way for the BOP to sweep their problems under the rug makes my stomach hurt. The women transferred from here to other facilities are being targeted by their new captors who are making their lives hell. Where is the accountability?

This is Leopards Eating People's Faces stuff. The system is bad because that's how the majority of the public wants it to be. Same public that believes we pamper prisoners. Then they find themselves in the system and are shocked and dismayed by how they are treated.

Privileged people generally experience the system as biased against and as singling them out for abuse, because they cannot imagine that’s just how the system treats people.
From what I understand from listening to @kenwhite.bsky.social Weinstein isn't getting any special treatment, and this is how it is for everyone at Rikers, but no, he thinks he's being picked on.
Lawyers say they suspect Harvey Weinstein has been deliberately mistreated in prison

As usual, the correction/retraction gets less traction than the initial splash. People's lives were turned upside down. Once the fuse was lit & flamed, it kept burning (still now), despite all the data saying this was not happening.
