Alabama’s population is 28% Black and increasingly Hispanic. White Republicans are only able to rule by cheating. And when Dems invest no money in red states that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy

It's the Russian human wave tactics. They do these horrific, inhumane assaults. Where they send thousands of men to charge into Ukrainian defences until the Ukrainians run out of ammo. It is slow, costly, horrific, but to a degree it also works.
I've seen bad news for ruzzia. Getting their refineries pounded but nothing else. So, what has happened?

Yes, and I don't think anyone is saying "give up on the South." Folks just need to recognize that the South isn't artificially red. These states are red because, for the most part, a majority of their voters are red. The Mississippi legislature is still overwhelmingly Republican.

you can absolutely mobilize already-Dem voting constituencies like Black or Latino voters or in some cases women, and make progress. but you aren't going to flip those states by turning out the base. bsky.app/profile/dian...

but I think while in the midwest, northwest, southwest, northeast, and mid-atlantic the idea of Bush voters turning into Dems is something you can see, it's not happening in South Carolina or Mississippi or Alabama

it's happening in states with diversifying suburbs. it's not happening in the states where the suburban populations haven't changed much. maybe the ACA carnage shakes some loose but I wouldn't count on it

Spiers is desperate to believe that some amount of deliverism or investment could redeem the South when absent massive population shifts in urban centers the only thing that got like six consecutive generations of southern whites to vote for non-white politicians/Democrats was military occupation.
I understand why a lot of white liberals are like, fuck the south, because they think about the people in power who are mostly white conservatives. But that is only because of Jim Crow, voter suppression, a lack of real funding for Dems there
