I also think that if you don't know a single person who is Very Excited about AI, then you have a very curared social circle - and I mean this both (laudatory) and (derogatory)

For me that's my mother's friend using ChatGPT to plan trips, and oh yeah, every single one of my 200 students

Working for a SaaS company and then logging into bsky is a surreal experience because bsky is all "no one wants AI, ever" and in the meantime like 90% of real customer feedback I read at my real job is like "where the heck is your AI? I'll cancel if you don't add it by next week"
There’s a very surreal conversation I keep having on here where people seem unable to hold two ideas at the same time, and I’m not sure why. It’s simply true that the Big AI platforms like ChatGPT are:
1. Extremely bad for society, in many ways.
2. Very genuinely popular with lots of people.

In big cities, no one gives a fuck about you (laudatory)
there's a tendency in parts of the left to believe that 'community' is the answer to everything but communities are often horrendous!

What if we apply this logic to any other country. Are people leaving their countries because of the political conditions there (and moving, for example, to the US of A) instead of "standing up and fighting" all untrustworthy cowards?
You are either pro-immigrant or you aren't.
I have said privately that while I don’t necessarily begrudge anybody who chooses to leave the US, but A. That is tremendously privileged and b. I do think we have to be very skeptical about giving them roles in the country once we defeat fascism simply because they didnt stand and fight
Sick story dude. I mean a Muslim democratic socialist just became mayor of NYC but I'm sure they were totally gonna make second rate Yale philosophy professors the number one target. Truly the most persecuted amongst us.

God I hate this loser shit.

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

LLMs are a great tool for letting you kind of do something you don't know how to do. the problem is that knowledge of whether it is a good idea to half-ass something is highly correlated with knowledge of how to do the thing correctly.
vibe coding is a technique for being a mediocre or bad engineer in areas where you are not actually an engineer at all and don't really know anything. so uh. if that's what you're trying to do it's stellar probably

okay look i'm probably more transit-pilled than most of transit-pilled bsky but this is like saying "people who have cat hair on them say they like cats more than those who don't". Like, yeah, that's how they got the cat hair on them.
Half the survey respondents say that they don't feel safe on transit, but this was not a scientific poll. It was a survey of whoever wants to respond. Still, look at this. People who use transit think it's much safer than people who don't.

Being late to everything means you’re a bad person. A key narcissistic personality trait: letting other people know they and their time are not important compared to whatever you feel like doing at a given moment.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?
