The thing about Trump saying it’s fine for Mamdani to call him a fascist is that he genuinely thinks all of this is kayfabe, just as he could insult Rubio or Cruz but still work with them. It’s not possible for him to imagine other people being sincere about anything.

The thing about Trump is that he’s a totally unreliable partner who is also dumb, impulsive, and easily manipulated. So it makes sense to play nice with him, but only if you don’t cede ideological or political ground, because you know he’s going to screw you over later.

To clarify: "fucked just about everybody in the United States" ≠ "world's greatest lover".
It's not the worst thing any of them have done, but it's absolutely on my personal list that I have to know who any of them are and have to think about them, from Donald on down to the guys on whatever insipid chan they gather round these days.
I know that we have to take them seriously anyway but I’m not going to stop resenting that fact, please let me go back to making fun of them full time

It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.
