This time of year is fucking hard. The holidays are a fertile ground for dark thoughts. Loneliness can drown you, even when you're surrounded by people. Take care of yourself. If you feel like you're drowning in darkness, please talk to someone. Friend, family, stranger. Anyone.

You deserve love.

My observation as well. It's ok for small, one-off coding that I can test thoroughly. It's junk for anything else.
I mean this is literally it. The only case I’ve found that’s useful so far is coding, because I can easily (and *rapidly*) test whether it’s working. Anything where I have to manually check every fact and every citation is actually slower than doing it myself.
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

In the 21st entry of the Hobbity Yule Calendar, we celebrate the darkest day of the year with a comforting hobbity painting of Yule sausages, painted by Casmantha! 🕯️

Hey there! As the year ends, some people at least are thinking about business and taxes, so here's my periodic reminder: If you operate a small business with a partner, please consider the problem of what happens if one of you dies.

I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

I listen to several Internet radio stations at work. One is playing the theme from Diablo 2: Tristram.

Today's December Comfort Watch: Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is right now as many years from its debut as it is from the movie serials which inspired it. How has age treated Indy, and what, if anything, does he still have to teach us?

We anticipate potentially 100,000 Washingtonians facing evacuation orders. The situation is fluid and changing all the time. We expect rivers to hit historic levels as early as 4 a.m. tomorrow, lasting into Friday morning.

It is 1991. I am standing in a crappy dorm room drinking beer listening to the Eagles.

It is 2025. I am standing in Texas Live drinking a beer listening to the Eagles.

I am the Dr Manhattan of drinking.

I'm in a sales meeting today. I prepped for a presentation that I was still nervous about this morning.

It has been cut for time.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode: no Stars (Wars nor Trek), LOTR, or Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

As a Gen X, my response was "yeah, ok, buddy" 🙄
The true Gen X reaction to being lauded as the "greatest generation" would be to narrow its eyes suspiciously and mutter "whatever" when asked about it

We are all toad.
Frog knocked at Toad’s door. “Toad, wake up,” he cried. “Come out and see how wonderful the winter is!”

“I will not,” said Toad. “I am in my warm bed.”

For a mere 100 million dollars, I will happily make up stuff. I only take a fraction of the water and energy too.

Q: Who was Napoleon?
A: Frank Napoleon lived from 1517 - 1601 and was a great juggler and gained fame being the only person in medieval Spain who could blink and clap at the same time.

The World’s Goodest Boy(👇) was half Pyr, and I cannot recommend the breed/mixes enough. Friendly, lazy, easy-going nature and usually great with kids (as well as other animals). If you have room in your heart and your yard - take a chance on one of these good boys/girls. You won’t find a better dog.
