As temperatures drop, our phone lines light up with community members worried about stray and community cats. While it is wonderful that people care, rescues & shelters everywhere are at capacity. However, there are simple ways you can help outdoor cats stay safe and warm this winter.

When I think of all the incredibly talented, hardworking, and decent people I know who have had to leave academia for reasons they have no control over, and see shite like this, it does lean me towards the belief that huge chunks of academia are irredeemable.
Larry Summers tells @theharvardcrimson.bsky.social
he’s stepping back from all public commitments in light of his messages with Epstein, saying he is “deeply ashamed” and hopes “to rebuild trust and repair relationships.”

He will continue teaching.

I am often to be found caring for the unknown dead, who emerge, shattered, from their ancient and forgotten graves. Collecting them, burying them, praying them back to their rest. It makes me think, sometimes, of the transphobic refrain that in a thousand years our bones will somehow betray us.

Almost like police don’t exist to protect and serve the public
New from @francescadnunz.bsky.social: Texas Department of Public Safety and ICE signed a pair of agreements that will authorize state police within DPS’s Criminal Investigations and Highway Patrol divisions to effectively operate as ICE agents, on a statewide basis.
Texas Turns Its Sprawling State Police Force Into Immigration Agents for Trump
The notorious 287(g) task force program has finally reached DPS, raising fears of widespread racial profiling.

Two weeks ago, it took the NHS 75 minutes to examine, x-ray, and refer me.

I met my consultant today, had a physio session, and booked an MRI for 8 December.

Nobody asked for my credit card details.

The NHS shows another world is possible, which is why they want to destroy it.

r. abraham joshua heschel's view should be the basic standard:

"Racism is satanism, unmitigated evil. Few of us seem to realize how insidious, how radical, how universal an evil racism is. Few of us realize that racism is man’s gravest threat to man, the maximum of hatred for a minimum of reason"
It feels like racism for liberals is seen like an edgy / unfortunate opinion. Especially when it comes to the media and literary world. It might have been Malcolm Harris who said that bigotry is disqualifying on a foundational level, which I agreed with. I can’t take the person seriously after.

Confiscating jewellery from survivors of a war zone makes you look like a fucking Nazi. And the obscene thing is, that is the intention. It's there to look appropriately harsh. Indecent. Filthy. A moral stain. And no-one of good character would have ever proposed such a thing in the first place.

Look, for fuck’s sake, humans have been migrating continuously for our entire existence.

Every single human in the world is the product of migration.

It’s what humans do. There is nothing *more* human.

That’s never going to change.

Just grow up, get the fuck over it and plan accordingly.

There were 93 homicides in London last year: population 9 million

In New York - population 8.5 million - there were
391.

London's homicide figure is 6 times lower than LA, 9 times lower than Miami, 17 times lower than Chicago.

And it's falling year on year despite the population increasing

Women in academia basically all have at least one *Story*, even those of us who didn’t remain there. This is sickening, and the exoticizing racism on top is truly repugnant. This man should lose EVERYTHING. I have no connection to Harvard, but if you do, please encourage them to get rid of him.
The Harvard Crimson has ID'ed and published the name of a well-known economist who was the subject of emails between Larry Summers and Epstein.

Born in China, she did her B.A. – Ph.D. at Harvard.

The code name that Summers and Epstein used in their emails about her was "peril." What a vile pig.

There is no viable path toward financial stability for anything in AI. It’s all gonna collapse and our economy is going to tank as a result of so many institutions carelessly hedging their bets on it.
Some great charts on #AI from the Wall Street Journal. t.ly/xvvbw "AI products would have to create an additional $650 billion a year, indefinitely, to give investors a reasonable 10% annual return. That’s more than 150% of Apple’s yearly revenue"
