If America had the majoritarian political institutions that the **rest of the democratic world has,** our political and policy landscape would look like Canada's.

American democracy is shitty and produces shitty outcomes.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

I'm a voiceover actor, you've heard me on your TV, radio or the web over the 36 years of my career. My bread-and-butter work used to be narrating training films and corporate videos, used to be at least 1/3 of my income. MOST of that work is now AI. My agents are dying, fellow talent are struggling.
How is AI *really* impacting jobs?

Henley Chiu, the CTO of Revealera, a jobs data analysis firm, analyzed 180 million jobs listings in 2024 and 2025, in an effort to find out. Chiu found an:

-8% drop in all jobs postings
-~30% drop in art, photography, writing jobs
-22% drop in journalism jobs
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

The entire Trump 2.0 project boils down to resegregation: in housing, in finance, in education, in the media, in the military, in immigration, in law enforcement, every aspect of the "seven mountains".
The top U.S. watchdog for consumers' finances on Wednesday proposed narrowing key civil-rights-era anti-discrimination requirements for the financial industry, advancing President Donald Trump's effort to curtail and eliminate policies he views as promoting racial favoritism.

I live in LA County and was discussing this with someone recently. They asked what happens to unhoused people who are “swept away.” My answer was that they die. Unhoused people are ki!!ed by government “clean up” projects. On average, 7 unhoused people die every day here…

China has a huge LBGTQ population (obviously) and acceptance among the population (especially youth) has grown significantly over the past three decades since decriminalization, yet the government still drags its feet over legal recognition and protection.

Hopefully that changes in the future.

Courage is contagious, but all we keep getting from our leadership is cowardice and complacency. If this regime is as dangerous as they say, then why aren’t they trying to put out the fires?
There are endless examples of this regime of the bullies for the billionaires attacking our people. When we make believe we're in a fight for healthcare subsidies alone, as critical as those are, negotiating in good faith as if MAGA were normal party - we normalize the regime.

People like Trump exist because people like Schumer exist
Much is made of Trump's ability to bounce back from setbacks and losses. That narrative really defines his entire public life. What's missing from that narrative is that no one with the ability to do so has been willing to deliver the final crushing blow when he's down.

They’re wearing masks so they can’t be prosecuted later. As long as they think they can’t be prosecuted, their crimes will intensify. They will torture, starve and kill, as they have already, on greater and greater scale.

Signed, someone who’s covered the unaccountable War on Terror for 23 years.
I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.

It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.

In most cities, Costco stores fuel sprawl & car dependency.

In Vancouver, our full-sized downtown Costco has residential towers above & a skytrain station next door. LOTS of customers don’t drive to it.

We live a block from it. We call it “the convenience store.”
