VIFF 2025 was the first year that I properly engaged with the festival and saw more than 2 movies.
Standouts were:
1) Akashi
2) Kontinental ‘25 -a movie that is more interesting to think about than watch

I intermittently code and hadn’t touched python for a year, so l used it to generate and clean up some snippets I needed and the whole process ended up taking about as long as if I’d just hacked my way through it.
We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.
The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
