It’s been 4-years since the Mass Ave Bridge added separated bike lanes. Despite initial opposition, it’s been a massive success for bikers, drivers & pedestrians.

Fall 2023 data saw an avg of 6,160 bikes crossing the bridge, a 51% increase. Vehicle travel times remain unchanged.

“Ben Healy won’t be in the top spot when the Tour finishes on the Champs-Élysées on Sunday but he has lit up the greatest bike race in the world with his energy and enthusiasm; something we would do well to carry over into everyday Irish cycling, to make it a truly mass-participation activity again”

Talking on a mobile phone while driving, even hands-free, gives you similar reaction times as a drunk driver.

So it seems quite insane to take it one step further and integrate Microsoft Teams video calling into a car's in-built system.

Love the ‘proximity to good things’as a benchmark of good planning.
Walking distance to parks, shops, schools, public transport, cycling network, medical services, nature, sports, music, loveliest bakery - for everyone! 😁
Every Boston resident has a public park within a 10-minute walk, making Boston only the second major US city to achieve this feat, alongside San Francisco.

New to me - and dates back to 2012 - but Copenhagen calculated that every km someone cycled in the city had a net benefit to society of about 20p (adjusting for 2025 values)

There's a detail in this photo from @modacitylife.com whose legal omission creates an unnecessary barrier to cycling in Ireland, and especially in Galway city where streets are one-way to optimise both parking and unimpeded vehicle flow.

Slightly nerdy thread on this detail 🤓🧵
