Well done to the @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social for their work on the new Irish Primary School Curriculum.

Cycling has been moved from the "adventure" activity area to "Active Living" in the Wellbeing Spec

This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.

“By signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail – it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.”

This will kill people.

Walk anywhere in Amsterdam and you’ll sense a calm coherence: bricks, curbs, fixtures, benches, bollards and drains that look related. This isn’t accidental. It’s a product of the Puccini Method, the city’s standards—part design language, part technical playbook—for shaping every street and square.🧵

The sustainable mobility revolution needs storytellers to show there is more than one way to move. When the narrative is missing, misinformation takes hold, fueling claims like cycling kills local businesses or that traffic-calming is anti-car.

SUVs (not just oversized) endanger vulnerable road users.
Electric or fossil-fuel, they harm health and the environment.
They waste space and symbolise failed transport policy.

Our streets should be full of children and adults cycling, not clogged with SUVs.

SUVs don’t belong in our cities!
Opinion: Supersized SUVs are more dangerous to pedestrians. Is it time for an extra levy on new ones?
The Debate: Is a proposed weight tax on heavier cars per kilogramme really about safety – or more about punishing the smug?

#Galway is a nightmare I regularly have to put my life in the hands of drivers as I try to walk across roundabouts that have no pedestrian crossings. Zero ambition for public active transport.
Spot on letter to the editor!

Time for politicians to bite the bullet. Another ring road is an outdated non-solution that will increase emissions and car dependence.

Let’s fast-track a light rail network for Galway, paired with world-class active transport infrastructure.

Now that’s a solution!

Another at Claddagh playground and 3 more outside coffee shops.

With so many parents looking for a healthy way to enjoy quality time with their children, Galway is quickly becoming the cargo bike capital of Ireland.

The bike is not a perfect replacement for the car, as it lacks the required range. Likewise, the train lacks the door-to-door convenience. But combine these two modes into a single system, and a seamless mobility option is unlocked—capable of reducing congestion by replacing thousands of car trips.🧵

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.

Unbelievable, how simple it is. Create connections between popular destinations and separate bikes from cars. Then you get a ton of usage.
