Scientists at RAND warn that H5N1 bird flu poses increasing risks in the U.S., with human cases of unknown origin and widespread animal transmission.

They stress the urgent need for nationwide measures to prevent a potential mutation enabling human-to-human transmission.

The idea of “social murder” is super useful, and we need to get comfortable using it. Engels is the best, man - reading him feels like finally acknowledging the obvious reality everyone wants you to ignore

This paper is interesting for a few reasons. It shows that mask mandates in healthcare protect patients from infections, and removing mask mandates in healthcare harms patients.

A facility without a mask mandate is making a *deliberate choice* known to harm patients.

Putting up some of my favourite pieces to decorate the new account! Starting with this little array of floating (or falling?) Doctors, the start of my quest through DW canon to draw every character in this style!

If you can't bring yourself to admit that covid infections are causing health problems, then I think you may need to explore whether you have health anxiety and it's causing denial issues.

This whole dialogue might be one of my all-time favourite Doctor Who scenes. It’s the best proof that not every little exchange should serve the purely pragmatic purpose of “moving the plot forward”. There should always be moments of wholesome contemplation like this in the show.

The people you see masking are the ones who:

* care
* are paying attention
* know there’s a better way

We understand what’s happening and we reject it

Masking is an act of compassionate defiance

I guess I kinda get it. Spending years of a deadly pandemic telling people not to be cautious and being proved wrong by literally thousands of studies must cause some very harsh cognitive dissonance. Without intellectual honesty or integrity, denialism must be the only recourse.

Why can you still #smell things wearing an effective #mask?

You can smell some nasty things like smoke and rotten eggs even with fit tested #N95 #respirators which block tiny viruses/bacteria because the smell molecules have atomic masses that are 17 million times less than a #virus. 🧪🧵1/ #COVID
