Nita. Pita.
2 Dec 1915 // Motor boat Nita Pita, in #RoyalNavy service as a patrol boat, was destroyed by fire while at sea off Poole, Dorset. All her crew were saved. She had been hired for naval service earlier in the year and was presumably serving under her original name. #WW1 #NavalHistory

Currently dorking out over this graph about child mortality with my brother. Just mind boggling to take in.

This is the most wrong I’ve ever seen someone be on bluesky. The sheer terrible toy-selling dog shit that predominated in the 80s is so much worse than what my kids watch now.
i hate to be all like “decline of culture” but, god damn, kids’ TV (outside apple TV+) has sloppified worse than any other genre. And don’t reply “what about bluey?” bc that’s not a show for kids, thats a show for parents produced so that kids don’t mind watching it and i will not debate that point.

We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

The entirety of my Star Wars ranking philosophy consists of "The original trilogy are the only ones I ever want to rewatch."

Oh, and "I really need to get around to watching Andor."
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

One day the Brits will internalize that American English is the default English now.
As someone well-versed in biscuit posting: one of the most tedious days of my entire internet life was having an article about my family biscuit recipe go viral and having Brits and Australians line up to get patted on the head for reminding me that the word means something different where they are

ah bluesky going hard into one of my favorite thanksgiving traditions: telling me just how bad a cook you/your family are by ranting about how much you hate thanksgiving food.

the “thanksgiving food is bad” discourse raises its ugly head every year, but the truth remains that thanksgiving food can be amazing as long as you know how to cook. the problem is we’re throwing a few million sunday drivers directly into a grand prix
I think this is unfair to turkey. turkey is good but hard to cook well because it is so damn big. turkey *parts* are great but lack the esthetic appeal of a centerpiece bird.
