The use of the private surveillance tool, Auror, by Police — and now Customs too — is disgusting and needs to be ended.

It’s all being done in the shadows to avoid an open public debate about the creation of a surveillance society.

There's a parliamentary COUP taking place in Brazil right now, aided by Meta – who is shadow banning left wing Instagram profiles, including president Lula's.
Right-wing lawmakers in Brazil were voting past midnight to cut down the punishment for Bolsonaro & others involved in 2023's coup attempt

A fight broke up in Congress and Meta simply shadow banned left-wing profiles on IG - including Brazil's president - so the right can dominate the conversation💀

The NZ public should not have to petition or lobby the government to enforce actionable consequences for politicians who shamelessly spread DISINFORMATION or BIGOTED ABUSE. FACTS & RESPECT should be mandatory for anybody in public service. Human decency should not be this fucking difficult! #nzpol

that account was then banned by Bluesky Trust & Safety. horrendously poor community management. what purpose does this serve?

Banning children from social media really means a push for adult digital ID. Tech giants failed at their first generation ‘real names policies’. This time, they‘ve outsourced the work to corporate-supporting politicians and useful idiots.

Exactly right
Every single person who is anti-trans is a slight scratch away from going full racist. It is basically a gateway drug for racism/bigotry.

It seems fine. You pretend it’s about protecting women. You can point to famous people on your side.

But it is only ever about hate. Disgusting & cruel hatred.
UK Labour is what happens when a party flushes its soul down the toilet.

A party of bigots.

I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced
Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

If Labour wants to "follow" the politics that endangers our trans whanau for donor funds,

The Greens will lead the politics of protecting our trans whanau against imported fascism.

#nzpol
This is my position. I can’t believe they’re continuing to use this excuse when the “culture war” has already led to legislation being used to directly contravene the human rights of trans people. Lab wanting to follow and not lead *is* putting kids at risk.
Hipkins response to me was basically, "we absolutely support trans people & will reverse it, but we don't want to start a culture war that would put trans kids at risk."

It doesn't make sense. WP has already started the war, TPM & the Greens response didn't start a flare up of hate afaik.

Yes that is entirely the point.

Force user-pays on everybody so that the wealthy can have a nice society that the poor aren't able to participate in but have to prop up.
Rates caps may mean more expensive parking, libraries and pools, mayors say
Councils might consider raising fees for things like pools, recreation centres and other community facilities, Wellington mayor Andrew Little says.

NZ is now several steps behind every comparable jurisdiction on social media regulation.

We don’t need blanket bans for under-16s. We need:
• a regulator
• enforceable duties of care
• penalties for platforms who ignore NZ law

Delay has gendered consequences.

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption

Things that Labour will say 'yes' to:
1. We need 120,000 people unemployed (at least) to stop wages going up by too much.
2. Banks can extract $8bn a year in profits, because that's the price we should pay.
3. The market will eventually deliver affordable energy / food / rent - be patient comrades.
