The thing about Pete Hegseth is that he'd make a terrible fictional villain because there's nothing fucking there. He's just a dumb, hateful blowhard and has seemingly spent his whole adult life like that.

Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.
Release from HHS: HHS will wind down its development of the mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

People are pretty upset about this in the comments, but I bet in the sphere it looks incredible. We honestly don't have to be angry about everything all the time

What really annoys me about the Wehrmacht admiration both institutionally and individually is the American army executed operations, offensively and defensively, at a pretty goddamn high level from 1944-1945, why not really admire that?
You really don’t have to hand it to the German officer corps on WWII but they really did pull one of the all time historiographical Houdinis in their telling of the war

Don't. Print. Lies. In. The. Newspapers 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡

It's not a "trade agreement", bc POTUS can't make "trade agreements" on his own, & every media outlet should stop being lazy by using "deal" or "agreement" & instead do journalism & explain to readers that all of this is wildly illegal & not how it works.
President Trump said Tuesday that he had struck a trade agreement with Indonesia, calling it a "great deal for everybody" on social media. Under the deal, U.S. exports to Indonesia would face no tariffs, while Indonesian goods would be charged a tariff of 19% when shipped to the U.S.
Trump Announces ‘Great Deal’ on Trade With Indonesia
Details are still scarce on the agreement, which the president said will partly walk back some of the steep tariffs he threatened on the country last week.

Very well done story on Embiid, in which he opens up quite a bit. Worth reading in full before reacting to some of the quotes that will probably get attention. www.espn.com/nba/story/_/...

Just this week, the 79-year-old president hallucinated a lie about the Unabomber, forgot he appointed the Fed Chair he hates, blanked on names of officials, fell asleep at a rally, threatened to strip Rosie O'Donnell of her citizenship and spun wild theories about his good friend the pedophile.

I was a much more avid reader in college than I am now, but back then I was in a reading-heavy major at a very good school. I didn't have an aversion to reading whatsoever, but 150pg/wk across multiple classes was simply too much. Especially to try and work through things critically.
I'm entering my 25th year in the job, having taught for 4 years at Yale and 20 at Berkeley.

The clearest trendline in my experience (fwiw) is the *dramatically* diminished willingness or capacity of undergrads to read. I used to assign 150 pp./week. Closer to 40 now—and even that is aspirational.

Probably the best national outlet right now for an objective look at national politics is the @inquirer.com and it's not even close
Why so many on the left are still paying @nytimes.com is just beyond us. There are so many, far more worthy outlets.

Hell, we've got a list just here in Nashville of those who've done a far better job earning your subscription dollars
It's very obvious that the NYT has put people in editorial positions who view it as part of their job to upset the left. This is, in the bizarro, insular world of US elites, seen as a way to restore balance & regain the trust of the right.

Putting aside the merits of the larger effort ...

I don't think it's that complicated. It's wealthy people who want to keep every single one of their dollars, but also feel bad bc they think average Americans shouldn't suffer. And see.....no possible way to solve that.
It's so weird how everyone who says they're "politically homeless" is a far right winger who lives in NY or CA and still wants to get invited to parties
