The Trump administration will deny emergency preparedness funds to cities and states boycotting Israel, which is heinous but unsurprising. The Trump admin literally wants its political enemies to die.

The American Jewish Committee supports the Trump admin’s policy. www.reuters.com/world/us/us-...
US links $1.9 billion in state disaster funds to Israel boycott stance
The Trump administration said states and cities will not receive funding to prepare for natural disasters if they choose to boycott Israeli companies, according to an agency statement.

If you value hearing my local weather forecasts and severe weather coverage on Illinois Public Media (streaming online and over the airwaves!) in central Illinois, they need your support now more than ever.

When public media disappears, so do the stories that bring us together.

With federal funding eliminated, millions may lose their last trusted source of news and connection.

OK on your iPhone (grey & white) you can turn on "emergency alerts" and it will send NWS alerts. Turn off public safety alerts to skip blue alerts (in TX). The beige one is Android alert options.

I worked at NOAA and FEMA. I've had long, exhaustive conversations in recent months with those inside at high levels. Staffing is depleted, resources are critically low, and morale is rock bottom. Our hurricane defenses are down, and it's only a matter of time before we take an uppercut to the chin.
The June 1 start of hurricane season is upon is, and the two key U.S. agencies we rely on the most for hurricane season--NOAA and FEMA--are in unprecedented disarray. I summarize the ugly details in my latest:

Hurricane season is upon us, but NOAA and FEMA are not ready » Yale Climate Connections
The turmoil at key U.S. agencies threatens everything from forecast quality to storm recovery.

Another one of the non-weather things that NOAA does. The National Geodetic Survey is actually the oldest part of NOAA.
AND it appears the NGS website is down too.
SCOOP from me: the mass exodus of employees from NOAA is decimating a tiny office that literally keeps our measurements of latitude and longitude accurate — and, former employees tell me, endangers the science of how the US understands global measurements:
Trump Cuts Are Killing a Tiny Office That Keeps Measurements of the World Accurate
A tiny but crucial agency that maintains physical coordinates like latitude and longitude in the US is struggling as the Trump administration forces out federal employees.

Hey Ypsi-Arbor science folks. If you do want to host one of these, I can likely help with a hosting space and definitely can help with promotion. Lmk!
Our goal is to have 1000 SUFS Teach Ins across the US, by 9/30.

*GASP* 😮

We know, it's a big goal.

If you've received tax dollars for your science, you have a responsibility to inform *your* community what is at stake: public health, the economy, innovation, and America's global leadership.

I also wonder if he has the manpower to watch everywhere and draw areas everywhere like NWS does. If not, I fear this could result in a false sense of security for his viewers. “Ryan isn’t talking about/showing it so there is nothing to worry about” sort of thing.

Phased Array Radars will bring a refreshed and upgraded pathway to weather surveillance that will help enhance predictability of storms. Some of this awesome research is done here at CIWRO/OU by Federal and CI scientists.

This research CANNOT go unfunded. I will refuse to stop sounding the alarm.
NOAA Research introduced and is redeveloping our national Doppler radar network. It provides the radar observations used to keep you safe in severe weather (the same ones seen on TV & your phone).

NOAA Research faces elimination. Learn more: www.ametsoc.org/ams/about-am... #SaveNOAA
