Hey, @ossoff.senate.gov, I'm really disappointed by this, and I called your office to explain exactly why. Tacking right is not the way to keep your seat. If people want a republican senator, they will have plenty to choose from.
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

I honestly can't think of an issue where my mind has been more thoroughly changed by listening to people on social media. While MAiD is something that in principle I'd support, it's not possible to have it as a truly consensual option under current systems- something I learned from disabled folks.
A woman in Saskatchewan needs surgery for a parathyroid issue and is being offered MAiD instead.

There’s no one in the province who can perform the procedure and the government won’t pay to send her elsewhere.

This is why disability advocates warn about assisted dying

Was thinking about this story so much yesterday. I shared it with my husband last night. His mother is like this. I am not. He agrees and wants to know if I don't like things (even though I can tell his feelings are a little hurt when I don't like the things he gets me).
I can’t express how much Paddington shit Grammy had by the time I was growing up

The whole guest room bed was COVERED in Paddingtons. Dishes, lunchboxes, paintings

I CANNOT get my head around the idea that she never ever liked P.Bear & it was all just bc grandad didn’t know what she actually liked
All my life I’ve deeply associated Paddington Bear with my grandmother, who died when I was 14.

I just found out she fucking hated Paddington.

She liked Winnie the Pooh.

One Xmas grandad got her a Paddington because bear + no pants = same & she just smiled & kept quiet.

For the rest of her life.

Particulate pollution in the air down a whopping 22% in NYC’s congestion pricing zone.

Not only are the streets less congested, but so are our lungs.

PSA: if anyone in your life is trying to dissuade you from getting the shingles shot, you should probably assume that person hates you, and wants you to suffer. There is literally no other explanation.

Shingles hurts worse than childbirth. Worse than knee surgery. Worst pain of my life.
I am baffled by this because I have had so many friends with shingles and NONE of them made it sound fun. Not one. A vaccine that made me absolutely miserable for 48 hours would still be a huge improvement over the mildest case of shingles I've heard of. (Also it made me tired for 1 day.)
All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

Something I've missed since leaving the Midwest is a dedicated pie restaurant.

My contribution to the discourse: I generally like fruit pies, except for blueberry, and I don't like pecan pie–not because of the nuts, I like nuts, but because of the weird goopy filling.
When I moved to San Francisco I was shocked to learn that folks there aren’t really that into fruit pies and the pie love is mostly directed to custard, creams, and meringues. I’m speculating wildly but I think fruit pie is kind of a Northeast thing?

(Except the marionberry weirdos in Oregon)
I think we can all agree that blueberry (made with fresh blueberries) is objectively the best pie.
