My teenage son (audhd) brought home 2 friends afterschool today without any caregiver puppeteering behind the scenes. We have been working on these particular skills (inviting, planning ahead, being flexible, coordinating with others) for 2+ years. He said it may have been the best day of his life.

Still amazed by this. Can you imagine FDNY saying sprinklers or fire escapes are only needed in buildings where there's already been a fire?
Imagine if we treated any other form of safety like this:"We should only install outlet covers in day care centers on a case-by-case basis, such as where a toddler has stuck his fingers in an electrical socket."

if you're not from or have never been to new york i cannot stress enough how normal the subway is 99% of the time. kids take it to school. everyone is basically chill. you learn to be in proximity with harmless weirdos or minor irritations pretty quick. for all its issues it's an incredible thing

In 1996 I went on a trip to Bolivia sponsored by Focus on the Family. It was my first time outside the US and despite all its intentions, it planted a seed for me to learn the world didn’t operate in a conservative, Christian bubble. So thanks, James? I couldn’t have denounced you without you.
