They have the votes to impeach and convict him

So they are not helpless

They are complicit
Some GOP members feel helpless as DOGE cuts hit.

A growing number of congressional Republicans are desperately trying to back-channel with White House officials as Trump’s DOGE ramps up its slash-and-burn firings of federal workers.

I know it seems like making comments is futile when presumably they will do what they want anyway, but it DOES matter for creating a public record and a public history - and comments, esp the # of fors v againsts, do come up occasionally in court cases. Speaking up is not futile. It's critical.
Public comment is now open for passport gender marker changes.

You can go here to go to each of the three proposed passport rules, and submit comment.

My suggestion: be unique, argue for trans-inclusive policies, against the constitutionality of the changes, etc.

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue:

1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance
2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion
3. Don't live post resistance meetings
This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

I need 🧪 to understand that this political moment is not the same as 2020 when support for *voicing support* for Black Lives Matter was so mainstream even big corps were doing it.

You are about to be targeted by COINTELPRO type ops, SS-style state policing, etc.

DO INFO SECURITY ACCORDINGLY

I’m old. I had a strange experience recently trying to explain to a young self proclaimed activist what a phone tree was. that way if any one person’s phone records were caught up they only got 5 or 10 other names and numbers at most. That also is how my name rarely if ever showed up in press.

Arguments about persuasion are comforting in their familiarity but they're so detached from the shape of the present crisis. It'll take Congress, or the Courts, or a police force responding to orders from either (or an undeniable mass of citizenry in DC) physically obstructing Musk to stop DOGE.

Popping in with my usual reminder to register your discontent with your GOP electeds even and especially when you think they don't care/won't do what you ask

They may do this fuckery anyway, but they don't have to do it without your express fucking objections
We've identified a point of leverage against Musk. Congressional GOP want Dem votes to pass a funding bill by March 14th. Dems have the opportunity to play hardball here, and some have already committed to. We're trying to build unified opposition. New explainer: indivisible.org/resource/exp...

That's right, isn't it? Kathy Hochul, who can be reached by phone at 1-518-474-8390 or messaged below, has the legal right under New York City's charter to remove Eric Adams, who is a fucking crook

Asked another way, do Democratic leaders need a Formal Declaration of Coup before they start behaving appropriately?
in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?
Hearing that DOGE went into the Dept of Education today and shut down almost the entirety of the department's in-house research arm, Institute of Educational Sciences, cancelling contracts totally about $900m.

This thread restored some of the hope that had been battered out of me. Community is all we have, and it’s often held together by a person who didn’t realize that’s what they were doing. Find that person and offer to share the load 💜
Update on my life: Last year, I joined my kids' school's PTA, because they needed a treasurer and I'm good enough with numbers. It was a straightforward, self-contained job: balancing the checkbook for an organization that only did a few fundraisers each year.

Convo with my friend from Hungary tonight who left after Orban’s election.

She said “your head will spin with all the wild stuff they try to pull, new things every day, but don’t take your eyes off the money. It’s all about the money, and what they’re stealing, and for whom.”

If one of these people is your Senator, you need to bombard them with calls and visits. Can’t get through? Fax them. Tell them no more Senate business until, at minimum, these unelected DOGE motherfuckers are out of all government business
UPDATE: 8 Dems voted today to confirm yet another Trump nominee during Musk's coup: Bennett (CO), Gallego (AZ), Hassan (NH), Heinrich (NM), Hickenlooper (CO), King (ME), Lujan (NM), Shaheen (NH). If you're a constituent, don't just call - write an op-ed, protest their office, make clear you care.
The Senate takes 3 votes this afternoon:
1) Go into executive session to consider Russell Vought to be OMB Director
2) Cloture vote for Pam Bondi for Attorney General
3) Confirmation of Christopher Wright for Energy Sec

These should be 3 easy NO votes for Dems. Watch yours and provide that input.

There's a current fetish for publishing primary source documents rather than having a reporter describe them, and I totally get it. But remember Reality Winner was caught almost immediately because the Intercept published what she printed out, unaware the NSA printer left an imperceptible watermark.
Any company or organization can use what's called a "canary trap" to try to ID leakers. Reporters - you can always just transcribe, describe or quote source materials like emails, memos, etc. if you're not sure if you'd reveal a source by showing a complete image of something leaked to you.

Once again, the NYT frames the unconstitutionality of this as something Democrats are arguing, not something that is objectively true. Trump can't decide to unilaterally shutter an agency Congress created and appropriated funds for.
