神戸大学などはイルカが毎年冬から春にかけて大阪湾に現れることを明らかにした。イルカが出す特殊な鳴き声を捉えて検証した。ノリの養殖で海の生態系が豊かになる時期に鳴き声を検出する回数が増えていた。イルカが餌を求めて大阪湾を訪れている可能性がある。研究成果をまとめた論文は学術誌「アクアティックママルズ」に掲載された。大阪湾は船舶の通航や漁業、海産物の養殖などが盛んな海域だ。これまでにイルカを観察した報告が相次いでいたが、科学的な調査は進んでこなかった。研究チームは大阪湾の北側の入り口にあたる明石海峡の周辺に海中の音を捉える観測機を設置し、約1年半にわたってイルカが出す「クリック音」という特殊な鳴き声を捉える観察をした。
