Harriet Harman has hated Andy Burnham ever since she was seen shouting furiously at him after he made her drop a savoury pastry she had really looked forward to eating. Google 'Harriet Harman PIE' for more on this legendary parliamentary dust-up.

It's great if they NOW agree there's a genocide in Gaza and a fascist in the Whitehouse. But a lot of us are quite interested in why nobody "important" was able to understand these plainly obvious facts previously. Maybe if they addressed the reasons for these mistakes, they'd make fewer in future?
Because "here's why I was still fundamentally right about all the decisions that got us here, but for some unfathomable reason it appears to have gone mysteriously wrong this time, and we must try again" isn't progress at all.
Bluesky idea: if people who didn't agree with you change their opinions so that they do agree with you, why not be happy that you are making progress - rather than complaining that they are "only just catching up"?

e.g. here's a video from 2024 of Ian Dunt smugly dismissing the use of the word "genocide" to describe what is now widely accepted as a genocide

i personally need ppl like this to address how/why they covered for obvious war crimes before i'm interested in their Very Clever Thoughts on other stuff

McSweeney staged a coup within Labour with the assistance of the media. He's also managed to keep that fact - newsworthy in itself - largely out of the media.

If media manipulation were all that was needed to run a country, Labour would be off-the-scale popular.

Labour's problem is they're so...
I don't disagree with the central premise - that Starmer does not have (or demonstrate) a vision and direction - but a failure to acknowledge the fact that the majority of the media is violently and consistently hostile to ANY version of Labour kind of undermines the point.
Completely wrongheaded view of how cultivating friendly commentators actually works. It is ideas and vision that creates a supportive set of commentators (even if some of the supportive voices are actually being transactional).

Damn, who could have guessed a bunch of Democrats teaming up with a fascist political party to censor the violence in Gaza by forcing a popular social media platform to sell to a coalition of fascist billionaires would also end up also censoring fascist violence here. Do you think anyone told them?
This morning, I recorded a video on TikTok about why DHS’s arguments for the power to enter homes without judicial warrants in immigration cases are bunk.

Nine hours later, TikTok still says my video is “under review,” and can’t be shared.

Well, here’s a link:

ok, I'm ready to make my prediction

Labour put Jon Ashworth up against Burnham, and as the Officially Sanctioned Labour Candidate, the CLP duly select him

The Greens are then able to put Literally Fucking Anybody in (ZP? someone else? doesn't matter), and win the seat narrowly from Reform
A question for people with exp. of constituency level Labour politics: what are the odds that Burnham doesn't get the nomination in Gorton?

I believe the selection process has been heavily centralised, am assuming he'll just get pre-ratfucked?

Imagine that the righteous fury, pain and fear of US citizens right now had been building up non-stop for nearly 80 years.

That's been the experience of Palestinians.

Seeing their children shot in the face and told its their own fault.

Top campaigning here from one of the Your Party slates, although it might just be a message about a shit show, it's very hard to tell.

This isn’t just Burnham, by the way. The entire plan for Starmer’s people is to weld the cockpit door shut, put the plane into a nosedive and after the crash, hope that one of them is still in the pilot’s seat. And they’re not even hiding it, because it’s not the first time they’ve done it.

Hooold on...so it wasn't important for Keir Starmer to stand up for asylum seekers being burnt out of their homes, or object to British children's images being used by pedophiles, but he's now risking our national security by having a tantrum on behalf of trained killers?

Fuck that.
