Saying that "autism is preventable" is essentially saying that autistic people should not be born.

It's a eugenicist claim.

During the last six months there’s been a substantial increase in academics approaching me to ask about leaving #academia

This article articulates many of the reasons why they’re doing that…
"It is impossible to be a top-line manager and administrator and mentor and researcher and writer and outreach officer and IT expert and online instructor and pedagogical innovator and recruiter and teacher and marker and external examiner and press pundit and grant bidder and editor."
It’s Not Your Fault That Academic Life is Getting Harder by Glen O’Hara
Universities are in trouble, and it’s not just money we’re talking about. They are living through something of a crisis of confidence, even of trust and faith. More and more, I find myself, and my col...

I knew this book was going to be good and have just finished it. Anyone with an interest in how the countryside is managed should read!. Spoiler - the “custodians of the countryside” are doing a terrible job with some notable exceptions. Well done @guyshrubsole.bsky.social

Relatable. When I moved to London for university I deliberately 'lost' my Cornish accent after someone told me I sounded like a pirate. Ridiculous in hindsight because who doesn't like pirates? Glad to be back in Cornwall and speaking naturally again!!

Sociolinguists say accent bias is prevalent in the UK and affects how people are perceived by classmates, colleagues and friends.

For years Nigel Farage has banged on about billionaire George Soros influencing the political climate in Britain and the rest of the world.

Now - Farage's Reform is poised to take a rumoured £100 million from Elon Musk and the right wing media doesn't bat an eyelid.

Very interesting. Universities (like this one, but not only this one) are the source and amplifier of student and staff stress. Universities then fail to deal with any stress they've created. It IS a health and safety issue and we should treat it as such.
The UK's HSE in its reply to the University of Birmingham SMT's response to Birmingham UCU's complaint: 'I do not consider that your reply provides sufficient assurance that work-related stress is being suitably managed by the University'.

Autism research findings often send a chill down my spine.
Stigma, discrimination, high unemployment, difficulty accessing healthcare, physical and mental health issues, early mortality, trauma.
It’s not surprising those of us who are Autistic sometimes feel fearful and hopeless about the future.

I accidentally deleted my last photo of Bengali (he's named after a Thundercat... I realised only belatedly that it's a confusing name when he's a Maine Coon and not a Bengal). Here he is, demonstrating that he is an agent of chaos and destruction.
