Another thing that's happened overnight is we've become fully aware of the number of fossil fuel lobbyists at these talks.

More than 1600 - 1 in every 25 participants, the highest concentration on record.

Confusing situation earlier when a woman walked past me and called me a 'killer whale'. A bit unnecessary, I thought. But I'd forgotten my sweatshirt has orcas embroidered on it.

Make time today to read this thread. Really important points made here.
I'm concerned about the health research community rushing to *require* patient/public involvement (PPI) for all methodological research.

So warm this morning I didn't need a coat. It's beautiful out but such a worry, this balmy temperature is not normal.

I am calling upon the people of Ireland to immediately begin construction of a thread on this site about how you or someone you know was roasted for a fashion choice. We need it.

All roasts must have come from Irish people *only*. Please respect this important rule, it makes a difference.

'“There is a generation of young scholars who are finding themselves stuck in what feels like a period of protracted adolescence,” wrote one young academic earlier this year, in a series of blogs on the early career researcher experience published by the Society for the Study of French History.' 1/3
Early career researchers feel sharp end of jobs crisis.

As universities shed jobs, those setting out in academia are feeling pain of diminished prospects.

Leaving aside the dogeared poster on my uni kitchen wall proclaimed 'hey kids, it's the 80s, let's go street riot' the points below are well made. The messaging about unis pairing genuine concerns over costs and debt with misinformation on 'useless' degrees and rebel students is, at best, unhelpful
Why do people just report this? May Mailman says that, "Instead of producing citizens who will 'propel our country into the next generation of greatness,' [universities] are, in her view, creating 'indebted students with useless majors who hate our country and like to go to riots.'"

When apps were the next big thing I remember the scramble to launch ones that would fix your relationship, or boost your confidence, or make you less lonely. Most were not well thought out so virtually all never got built, or just disappeared post launch. These AI startups have similar vibes.

Me: Why did we outsource campus decisions to a corporate consultant?

HR: We haven’t outsourced anything. We’ve merely engaged a strategic partner to collaborate within our priorities and provide insights for our long-term goal of eliminating inefficiencies and streamlining our effective operations.

People are often surprised to learn that no matter our age, when seeking advice we're most likely to turn to family and friends first. Unless we're estranged, neglected, ashamed, or threatened into silence. To keep others safe support (including AI) shouldn't force secrecy, exclusivity, or mistrust
Dr Ougrin says the transcripts appear to show ChatGPT encouraging an exclusive relationship that marginalises family and other forms of support, which are vital in protecting young people from self-harm and suicidal ideation. www-bbc-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.bbc....
